In a bit to soak up the F-Type comments from the Top Gear thread....Press are out on the passenger rides.

This is key to the car's immediacy of response." And then, "We want to beat the 911, the Aston V8, the Audi R8, but at less cost."

The impressions here are just that. I could be completely wrong. But I doubt it. Too much about the F-Type feels right for it to be a flop. Roll on April so we can finally see if Jaguar has a British 911-beater on its hands.

I really hope it does, Jag deserve this to be a total success.

Sounds epic too.

It will be very interesting to see just how well these sell at this price point; going head to head with the 911 is brave, but not necessarily stupid.

Spotted a light silver one of these in Milton Keynes parked outside Debenhams on Saturday, seemed to be same sort of reg as the press drive one (VX62 xxx) by the time I'd parked up to take a snap it'd gone sadly! Would've been good to have a brief nose, looked good from the back.

Not sure what to make of this car. The looks aren't catching me quite the way they did on the pre-realease coupe version, they look a little contrived and the exhaust note also seems to follow the modern approach of tuning and to me losing something because of that. From what you can see on the Autocar video it does seem to be really nicely set up and handles those roads, it seems, really nicely.

Need to see one in the flesh really but people should remember the 911 is a 2+2 and that is a real important thing for many 911 drivers, who often have young kids at home who can ram into the back. On this basis I would say it competes more with the Boxster and Cayman but is lots more to buy.

Still another good car coming from Jaguar and that can only be good news, they have a great range now.

Do 911 drivers really do this? Those seats are absoultely tiny back there and none of the 911 drivers I know have kids

Many I know do, not all of course, but many do. Many 911 owners aren't petrol heads so they look past the brilliance to a bit of practicality. My wife managed to sit in the back of a mates car for a few miles but you would not fit me in and i'm claustrophobic so it is my idea of hell.
