C2Q Q6600 "GO Stepping" now available at OcUK!

Lol nah m8 :) Ive kept the Cooling tho. Other than that I chucked in a P35ds3P the Q6600 and GTS8800640 oh and a OCZ reaper. Temps look ok at Idle Im getting high 20's across the four cores and the gts is idleing away 40c too. In fact those temps are very close to what the Northwood and 6600gt were doing.

Very happy with it tho still getting windows sorted at the mo then Ill start to have a mess:)

These chips run on less power, produce less heat and therefore can be overclocked more.

The main problem with regular quads is that to be overclocked to 3-3.5GHz they need water, or high end air and a tolerance for noise/temps. G0 resolves this.

Is that a fact?

Screenshots?

Or is it just someone shouting that around?

Wow I cannot believe that people are blindly willing to jump on this "G0 Stepping Bandwagon" based mainly on heresay and a few Golden Samples plus less than impressive retail results to date ... on paper they should offer more room for overclocking but I aint convinced.
I think I will sit this GO upgrade out and wait for the REAL upgrade coming shortly: Penrynn, my E4300 running @3.1ghz will do for now.
I really think that Intel are trying to squeeze the most profit out of these chips by subtly changing a few bits n bobs around and waiting for people to rush to take them off the shelve when really the difference on previous versions is minimal.
Happy Shopping!!

True, take a look at the figures I've posted above. If it delivers, then its a few degrees improvement, or a couple of hundred Mhz. Which is always welcome but hardly the second coming. The samples doing the rounds are cherry picked or ES and usually for the favored few. And the lower TDP with higher Tcasemax lets them speed bin easier, the lower speed chips could be a lot worse clockers. I'll reserve judgement until a few normal users have tried them, I still want one, don't need one, but hey.

what about those who are running on older CPU's ????

are we jumping on the G0 bandwaggon?

if you have to buy a new CPU why not get a slightly better one and wait for price drops @ the same time?

i defo see lots of bandwaggon jumping there

How do you know G0 runs cooler, because people have said it will?

I need some evidence personally.
Well I believe that a lower power consumption per value of time = less heat, but then that's just physics; what does it know ;)

So you think Intel tells system integrators it generates less heat for the fun of it?

Jokester

No, obviously not. My point is that know one really knows how much of a difference this is going to make. The difference between this and the regular Q6600 could be minimal, or it could be huge. Therefore, I will reserve judgement on this 'GO Stepping' until it becomes apparent how much of a difference it has made.

3c, pfft The way people were talking was like it was gonna be something substantial like 10-15c or so. :o
Well to fair it could be a bit better if it overclocks well for less volts. Still, there are physical limits for wattage and 15C isn't going to happen without much better cooling.
