Cable braiding advice.

Wow. Quite expensive kit there. Works out to around £45 almost. How good is it? And how much do you get. I know the local electronics store starting with M sells sleeving kits for around a tenner.

Having said that, it looks bloody good quality. And the service looks pretty good also. Anyone had any experience with it? It's nice that the kit includes SATA braiding and shrink. Bet it looks damn good.

My kit from MDPC arrive this morning, 3days from ordering to delivery on Saturday morning after a 48 hour postall strike. Thats what I call service.

Anyway, the bad news is I'm stuck and getting nowhere fast with doing my cables. The problem is once I have bent in the two tiny flaps which hold in the pin in the plug they won't stay out again to hold the pin back in after it's sleeved.

So I'm buggered basically. What I should have done was ordered the tool from there also and not decided a tiny flatblade screwdriver would do the same job.

The colour of the sleeve and heatshrink is awesome tho, I've gone for some of the Aqua blue stuff to go with my new case theme.

How much did the whole kit cost you mate? And what is the quality like? Quite interested in this kit, as I want to sleeve all my cables properly soon. Power cable for front panel, fans, SATA, the lot.

This took me 4 hours! Good luck with the sleeving mate. Like a few others have said; a decent hairdryer is the perfect tool for the job.

Your fingers are going to throb!

Quality is fantastic, if you pull the braid tight before heatshrinking you can't see the colour of the wire through the sleeve which is very important.

I ordered 20m (2 items) of the aqua blue small, 2 items of the small blue heatshrink, and then a single item of the aqua sata sleeve and 1 item of the sata heatshrink in blue. All came to about £38 delivered I believe.

I'm about to make another order for the tools they offer as I'm just getting nowhere trying t remove the pins correctly otherwise.

Good work there!

How did you get the pins out? Did you have any problem getting them back in and staying secure?

I used a Sunbeam PSU mod kit. A lot of people call them but I had no problems using it at all. I did have a knack to it though.:D

The pins go back in easy enough and just make sure the clip on each side is not sticking out too much so it ensures it has a good grip once back in.

My sleeving was the MuderMod stuff. Absolutely top notch!

Nice braiding and camera, what are you using?

Camera is a Canon 40D with the 50mm 1.8 lense.

This braid from MDPC-X is very good stuff indeed. So good in fact I've ordered a bit more, this time the dark blue braid to mix it in with the aqua blue on the 24 pin psu cable.
