Hello everyone.

Sorry if this is a horribly simple question, but i am ordering a Western Digital Hard Drive (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-244-WD) and would like to know which cables to buy as it is OEM. The mobo i will be ordering is a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-168-GI.

I guess i need a SATA cable, so i have gone for a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-002-WD (made by WD to fit WD hard drives, can't go wrong...i hope!). Plus i was told i would also need a serial ata psu converter, is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-052-GE the right kind of thing?

On a side note, the optical drive i plan to order is also OEM (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-027-OT). Would i need to use the same type of cables to link that up too? If so which type of SATA cable is best?

Sorry for all the questions, still rather new to all this :)

Thanks for reading, look forward to hearing back from you guys!
-Doug.

I got one of those motherboards not so long ago and they have plenty of the SATA data cables, so you won't need to buy the WD one. I'm not sure I'd take all that SureConnect stuff, I've never had a problem with bog standard cables, and the mobo comes with some cables with retention clips. £6+ is also a lot of money for a 0.5M cable. You're probably best off saving yourself the cash and using the ones included with the motherboard.

Like Ross1234 also said, your PSU probably has the right connector for power. Do you know which PSU you have?

And yep, you'll need exactly the same cables for your optical drive. I don't think there is a "best" type of data cable, the generics should be as good as the premiums, so using the cables that come with your PSU/motherboard should give you no problems.

The last time a company made a PSU for desktop/workstation PCs without SATA power connectors must be almost 5 years ago now. As such you can be sure that any PSU that OCuk sell will have the appropriate connectors. That motherboard will have at least 2 SATA data cables. You do not have to buy anything else. Stop worrying :)

Hehe, thanks for clearing that up Timko, and thanks for all the replies!

Time to order then i think, wish me luck :)

Thanks again!

Thanks for the replies :)
Just to confirm, if the motherboard comes with both SATA cables i would need and the PSU has the right power connectors, i won't need to buy any cables after all?

Thanks!
-Doug.

Yep, off the top of my head I think the motherboard came with 4 SATA data cables, and a review says that PSU has plenty of SATA power connectors, so you shouldn't need to buy anything else.

What [timko] said is very true: SATA is the standard these days but I thought I'd check anyway, I wouldn't want you blaming me for telling you not to bother with an adaptor now, would I? ;)
