Ideas people.

Up to 40k
4 seat pref but may be ok with 2
Petrol pref
300bhp plus
Can't be too old, gotta live with it. Tech etc.

Is it fast? Or perhaps better put, does it feel fast/sporty?

Was checking some out on auto trader. Good value. Is it kinda SL size gran tourer thing?

Is it fast?

Yes

Probably not in the way you are after, no. I've not driven a 640i, but a 535d certainly doesn't "feel" fast, though it most definitely is. You're just too detached from the "driving" for it to feel fast, but then that's not what a 6-series is really about.

I get the feeling you are looking for something more raw, lower, with less sound deadening!

Which, if its a convertible, will almost certainly end up with 2 seats not 4 (I'm pretending the seats in something like a 911 don't exist, as they are for dogs, not people :p).

4 seater convertibles tend to be for Grand Touring not B road bashing and the cars available reflect this.

I guess there is the 335i/340i Cab?

Yeah your right, but without giving away too much everyday comfort. Might be impossible lol.

Drove an s5 cab this week. Not fast enough (although could chip it) and didn't feel special enough. S tronic was a laugh though.

Oh btw it really needs to be an auto. I'm too lazy.

If the budget was 50-60 I'd just buy a 997.2 as that's what I'd really like.

FYI back seats would be small kids anyhow. Not bothered about getting adults in. Need somewhere to dump my mountain bike lol (in a bike bag lol)

If an S5 cab isn't fast enough (How on earth do you drive?!) then surely you are going to need 400bhp not 300bhp, which limits you to something like a 650i or an M4 Cabriolet if available at this budget.

The s5 was quick, but thought it would be a bit rawer in delivery tbh. I guess the noise is just as important to provide the sensation of speed. Apparently you can get an Audi approved stage 1 kit which takes it up to 400

I think Ill be needing to compromise on something, just not certain what I'm willing to give up. Probably just drive a few more possibilities and I'll know when it's right.

You'd probably find an RS5 in budget in all honesty.

Are F-Types in budget? If so that might be a good shout if you really can cope with 2 seats!

Yeah there's not many rs5 on the market making life more difficult. Besides the flared arches I'm not sure it's all that different to an s5. I've already had a v8 s5 coupe before which is similar.

F types are still out of budget. Don't trust the depreciation either.

£60k is 991 territory! I'm pretty biased of course, but for this money a Porsche is where I'd look.

I think for my budget I'm looking at 997.1 ? Worried it might have a bunch of issues at that age, miles. Ims etc?

Mustang.... too ford. Not premium enough. Had an s5 coupe before which was similar.

If 640i not fast enough is M6 convertible not an option?

Edit: just checked and they seem to start at about 45k but that could change by the summer... maybe.

All boxes ticked. I would suggest a better sub 40k modern 4 seat convertible does not exist.

Yup agreed, loved the one I drove for 200 miles
