Caddy size limit?

I recently posted on here about my WD 2TB SATA failing in my external caddy.

I have confirmed it was the hard drive at fault so have started the advanced replacement RMA process with Western Digital. Luckily they have already shipped my replacement and to my surprise it is the 2.5TB variant. Unfortunately, my caddy states 'up to' 2TB drives supported...

Now I have read conflicting reports on the net and am finding it hard to find any solid evidence. Some people state that there really is no size limit for SATA drives and the 'up to' are simply because bigger drives weren't available/common enough.

Does anyone have any experience with a larger than supported drive in a caddy or any advice? I can't actually find a caddy that if stated supports a 2.5TB drive. They either say maximum 'up to' 2TB or its not specified.

Cheers.

Right, still no replies and new HDD arrived today so thought I would update...

Basically the 2.5TB they have sent me is not powering up either, its trying, the activity LED switches to green for a few seconds at a time but doesn't register. So can only assume it has been the caddy at fault all along which is annoying as WD's diagnostic tool said there were too many bad sectors on my 2TB.

Couple of questions basically...

1. Is anyone using a caddy with a 2.5TB or know of one which will definately work?
2. How the hell do I sort this with WD? Obviously was planning on returning my 2TB to them but if they find nothing wrong, what happens? Will I be charged for the replacement anyway?

Any help appreciated!

Not personally using one only got 1tb's.

WD normally don't appear to test disks they just issue a replacement no questions asked assuming it is in warranty.
