Caliper Paint

^ :D

Fox, imo don't do anything that will draw excessive attention to the calipers, they will look cack and it will cheapen the car.

I wanted an OEM look so mixed black silver and gold hammerite:p

Black or gold would look fine. :) My only advice with the Hammerite is get the finish smooth with the brush first time - if you run the brush over the wet paint again it looks pants and won't dry smooth.

Stops them rusting

exactly, the zinc in the paint on the centre of the disc prevents rust forming on the contact area of the if parked up for while

btw when painting calipers prep is everything, wire brush in a drill and a mask (brake dust is not good for you)

I painted a set of CTR calipers which I am still needing to fit. I left them for 24 hours in rust eating hamerite dip, wire brushed the hell out of them, masked off the seals etc then just used black hamerite spray.

High temp paint isn't needed and red just looks so chavvy. As a car enthusiast you know which cars come with red calipers from the factory and which were painted!

Black or silver gets my vote.

Also coats wise, I did about 5 coats and then used 2 coats of laqour (sp?). Looks like they are brand new :)

The what on what?

Contact area of the disk as in the swept pad area or the wheel? Zinc for galvonising and preventing corrosion, or paint. Not both and certainly not on any contact areas.

Definately not red or yellow on a BMW unless it has uprated brakes. It does cheapen the look of the car.

Black or silver would make the calipers stand out just enough, make them look tidy and not cheapen the look.

I used hammerite smooth on mine and couldn't get the paint to go smoothly on. I'd definately recommend taking the caliper off and spraying them as that produces a much smoother effect.

Also a top tip is to spend absolutely ages sanding down the calipers (or using a wire brush) - don't skimp on the sanding otherwise the paint will just begin to peel.
