Call me sad! But.........

Half life 2 is by far the best game I have ever played.... Playing it for the third time now at 1920x1200..

The gameplay and environments are so immersive. To me it makes COD4 and crysis look poop. Why do they stress systems so much for hardly and graphical gains over a three year old game?

Let's hope they bring out HL3!

I agree with you 100%

Are you playing it with the Cinematic Mod?

The darker atmosphere, crescendo music and fantastic textures make it a much better game, imo.. I must have played through it about 7 or 8 times now.. definately the best fps I've played, with bioshock a close second :)

I know its all opinion, but how can you rate bioshock above system shock 2?

HL2 was dull to play but had a good storyline. Everything was just too scripted and in quite a few cases some scripted sequences would break leaving you screaming. The AI was completely laughable. I remember standing nexto a combine and then being noticed several seconds later. The guns were trash, they sounded puny and all wrong - and that sealed the game for me. I was glad it was over when I finished it.

Episode 2 on the other hand has repetitive moments that we have seen time and time again but was a lot better I thought.

HL1 was miles better, because every single person who played it can recall a specific encounter in detail. I can't remember any of HL2's latter levels, except for the trip through the citadel.

I got bored numerous times during HL2. There are some really great moments, but it lacks the direction that made the original so damn good. HL2 took Gordon and turned him into a superhero - run and gun stylee.

Wish I had something to smoke to make HL2 look even in the same league as COD4 or Crysis.

No need to smoke anything, just download the cinematic mod, improves the audio and visuals to "next-gen" levels. Seriously, it makes a huge difference, the HDR is stunning.

Have to agree with the original poster its the best FPS ever, and perfectly scaled as well so it plays well on older systems but still looks great but looks the real deal on high end systems especially with the cinematic mod.

I also suffer from motion sickness in this game and older games that use the Quake 3 engine but havent suffered at all with games like crysis.

I'm a great fan of the HL2 series. I agree that there were a few slightly tedious sections, Ravenholm being one for me. However, the amount of enjoyment I got out of everything else made that negligible. A much better game than Crysis imo, and still better than CoD4, although admittedly the graphics are better.

Can't wait for Episode 3 to come out. :D

HL2 is special because it has a unique and rich atmosphere, with character and soul. No amount of super complex, "next gen" graphics can replace quality artistry in games.

Its the same reason why STALKER is head and shoulders above any other single player fps out there right now.

I just started this again for the 3rd time, got that Fakefactory mod v4.0 on, looks bloody brilliant. :D

Gona go through it again, then do Ep1 again (as the v4.0 mod enhances that as well), then going to do Ep2, as i never finished that one off, so i decided to do em all in 1 fell swoop. :)

I like HL2, and to be honest when the trailers and gameplay footage hit the net, I was gobsmacked. But to be totally honest, I'm not sure I was as gobsmacked as when Hl1 came out. Being on that train through the black mesa complex and seeing all those scientists walking around blew my mind.

Motion sickness? I got that as well, only in HL2.

I got that with Half Life, Opposing Forces and Half Life 2. It was so bad with the latter two that I was unable to play Opposing Forces for than a hour and with HL2 I gave up after playing a few minutes of the original demo. :(

It's very strange as I've never had the problem with any other FPS's.

Those of you feeling sick when playing HL2, google "HL2 FOV motion sickness".

Thanks for that. Maybe I'll now get around to playing HL2 someday and see what all the fuss is about. :o

I have had the "motion sickness" but not with HL2, more with HL1 games. When I used to play cs I had to keep taking breaks every 20 minutes because it would be making me feel sick and giving me headaches.
