Camping, why the hate?

Tongue firmly in cheek.

So atleast one of our party on Cod is very very vocal on his dislike of campers/camping. I remember another from here being the same with GOW.

Often in a lobby after the game you hear the insult being hurled around.

Why in a shooting game is it seen as such a bad thing? I don't understand it. People get killed by snipers then complain they are camping. They are snipers they are not supposed to be running round surely.

Or you get the same foe keep going back to the same spot for kills. "That camping **** has gone back to that spot again"

Surely thats a good thing? You know where he will always be?

"That damn gamertag has killed me again from building X the camping ****"

Hang on, you know he's there and yet he's killed you 12 times. Whose the idiot? Surely it's the more realistic thing to do? Place yourself in the middle of a gunfight what would you do.

Face blanked to protect the innocent but atleast it spawns messages like this one I got on live ;).......

It's like the chainsaw on GoW, your easily killed by it and its annoying :p

If I use the sniper I tend to use isolated spots, not necesserily the same spots as I don't know the maps that well.
 
I used to get this all the time on DoD - played mostly as a sniper and was regularly accused of camping - duh!

It is annoying when assault troops (like SMG etc) just hide in a corner all map and make no attempt at the objectives (if its CTF etc), but as you say if they always do it then just adapt.

I find some maps very false in that on spawn everyone will run straight to default positions, lob grenades through known windows etc - what we need is dynamic maps that randomly generate every time. :D
 
The only thing I can't stand is spawn camping. Anything else is fair game for much the same reasons as you've already given.
 
Do they give out bad rep over camping? That's the only worrying thing, It would annoy the hell out of me that, Because I like Sniping. And i'm sorry but i'm not running around with a sniper rifle, You may aswell have a big sign on your head saying easy kill

COD4 has kinda got rid of camping with the kill cam. Also what is the point in a sniper if he can't camp? :confused:
 
Its annoying because it requires little skill to stand in a spot or hide for someone - especially spawn camping, where's the skill in that?

The most annoying are the people who sit with their sight up covering a doorway or whatever and they just plink at people as they enter the sight.

As soon as I realise someone is camping I make it my job to kill them, lots!
 
For COD4 I don't mind the campers that much. IF you're a sniper you're not going to be running around with a bolt-action weapon in the midst of battle, you're going to be in the background taking out OTHER snipers or a sneeky sod who's trying to climb a rooftop.

Besides which, unless the stealth perk is on, a players gonna show on a radar anyway.

So it really doesn't bother me in the slightest.

What REALLY REALLY winds me up to the point I just want to quit is the ******* kangaroo jumpers that are constantly jumping up and bloody down when you're face to face. If I could seriously be in the same room as them I'd stamp on their balls and knee them in the face. :mad:

Exactly what I think. With regards Soulja, everytime he kicks off I see that video in my head of that kid playing football manager ;)

Anyone know his Mrs or 'partner' as he refers to him, so we can get him to post a film up :D

I agree spawn camping isn't on, but normal hide in one spot picking people off is all part of the game.
 
Sniper camping, IMO, is damn annoying but legitimate. It's just annoying because there's nothing you can do about it if you didn't spot him. In normal fights, two people meet, skill/hax/game logic decides who wins. The only response to a sniper is to respawn and try and get him. So still a legitimate tactic.

Spawn/door/lift camping is wrong. Spawn camping is obviously bad but there are cases where people camp at places like the top of a lift. Annoying.

However in all cases, the answer to to go and shoot them in the face, not whine about it.
 
i dont look at scopies as campers

but i look at any other weapon as a camper - ie shotty sat behind doors, thats camping to me

scopes as you say are best used being sat in 1 spot - you take our chances in COD4 with the killcam - a good player will flush the scopie out quicksmart, whilst a good scopes, will be able to kill 3/4 then move to a new spot to accomodate for those coming for him

I'll admit I used to get frustrated in the past when I played CS/DoD, but since CoD and the kill cam I do find it quite funny that people still get upset by it.

You've been killed several times in the same place, by the same person yet you still insist on going at it the same way again. It just makes me chuckle when they complain about it.

Some people never learn... :D
 
Sniper isn't my chosen class. On any game.

However, if I am killed by a sniper / camper then I can respect that it was probably my fault for not being observant enough to check the known spots.

Case in point, I used to play for a CSS clan and one particular team were known for a good sniper.. when it came around to de_dust2 then I knew he would be sniping the double doors and stayed well out of the area in an attempt to flank him.

It is annoying though, when you play a public server.. it's down to 1 vs 1 and instead of going after the kill/defuse the bomb they'll stay cwtched up with their rifle; waiting the round out. In that situation I get annoyed because for the sake of one kill they could easily go swap weapons and try to get the glory.
 
Why is door camping wrong?

If I know your coming for point A and you likely route is through my door the sensible thing is to give myself the upper hand. Its just the same as protecting the objective. Too many people lose games because they don't protect their own base with a man or two.

My skills at doing that are vastly under rated compared to Soulja's and Wrydo's 400 kills :D

i should have added gametype - for 'OBJ' type games, yeah an organised outfit will need defensive positions, so i can appreciate that

TDM imo, is the rush - so campers on that grate me

either way, you pay the money and play how you want :)
 
Spawn camping is crap and happens too often due to CODs **** spawn points on most maps. However camping up in a window or in a nook with a claymore or two watching your back is fine in my mind, its modern warfare after all not UT3.
 
I don't mind any sort of camping to be honest. I do it sometimes if I'm using the sniper.

On COD4 though you can't stay there for long though, UAV, radar and killcam make you very easy to trace.
