Can 2 36gb raptor drives in raid 0 boot up windows as quick as this?

It has been prooven time and again that pre-fetch speeds up almost every aspect of the PC after booting. I'd much rather have my boot times a couple of seconds higher as that happens far less than me starting app's and loading data.

i have a raid 0 config on two sata 160gb seagates... my program load times are fine i can be first into bf2 servers from loading... but my boot up is so slow!! it hangs on the windows logo for ages any ideas?

After i did some tweaking on my pc to try and get my mem up to 250MHz, i put the settings back to my normal speeds and then bumped them up a bit. I knew this wouldn't be stable so i thought i might try upping the Chipset core PCI-E voltage and HT-Link voltage up by one notch. When i let it boot into windows, the scroll bar went across just over halfway and then it was in windows. I had to think twice about what i had just seen

Maybe it was just a freak quick boot-up, i'll try it a bit later on to see if it happens again. But damn am i happy :D

You have the same motherboard as me,,, what you think of the board?. Im thinking about getting a 36gb raptor for windows and apps then using my 200gb seagate for music, games ect

Would three Raptors in Raid 0 give much of a performance boost or is it pointless for what it costs?

Also, the 16k stripe thing, does anyone here believe the 16k stripe to be the best for a DFI Ultra-D board?

I like the board, it's quite feature rich but i think next time i upgrade i'll be getting a DFi for the overclocking potential.

If you've got the same seagate as me, loud and slow, then you'll see a massive speed increase in nearly everything. I tried putting the pagefile on the seagate as i've heard that you get a performance increase with the pagefile on a separate hard drive but the seagate is so slow that it caused a decrease in performance. I use the seagate for documents, downloads and programs (not games) and then the raptor for windows and games as it helps with loading times.

The raptor really is a great hdd and you won't regret getting one ;)

BTW, the overclock i mentioned above was unstable so i put everything back to normall and now the blue scroll bar goes across once as a pose to only half.

When I rebuild my PC, the first boot into Windows is just as quick. With a single 74gb Raptor first boot the bar only goes across once ! When I then plug in my other 4 hard drive, install Graphic Drivers and install my Anti Virus software, the Windows bar does 4 laps before booting !

TBH mate, its not that unique, but I can understand your excitment when it happens !!! LOL

But it wasn't on a fresh install!

It normally does 2.5/3 scrolls before booting which is why i was confused.

Sorry mate, I though it said higher in the thread it was a clean install with no apps installed?
Oh right, i got confused. i take it you were aiming that at LewisStuart ;)

any chance of someone making a PCI-E controller for an i-ram type drive? no connecting to a SATA port and would make use of all that bandwidth goodness :D

i dotn like the way the dos cursor flashes so fast in the op's video link :D . you turned up the rates ?? or speeded up the video

easily possible. For some unknown reason. my old 2100+XP booted in half a bar when I was trying out the beta of UT2003. had a fair chunk installed.

Needless to say, its never happened again. I find nothing supprising about a Raid0 setup loading that up very fast on a fresh install. In my experience. USB slows alof of this whole boot thing down. try turning that off in your bios.
