Can a cisgendered actor play a trans character?

Some people need to just shut up and keep their stupid ass feelings to themselves! It's getting ridiculous.

Don't blame them, blame all the baboons that give them any airtime whatsoever and champion their corrupt causes. See part of the problem of being an 'free and open' society is to allow such nonsense to propagate.

Good news is in about 5-10 years from now you'll have storybooks featuring Mokko: the six year old androgynous humanoid who self identifies as a Boojum Tree being raised/cared for/watered by its transgendered mummy and its homosexual daddy

Just curious... What do you think about a child having g a homosexual dad or a transgendered parent?

Typical cis male... history is determined by which groups, defined as men, women, races, religions, etc., had power or dominance over other groups. Certain groups, especially cis males, are oppressors, while other groups are victims. Victims are automatically good, oppressors bad, just by what group they came from, regardless of individual behaviour.

All discrimination against oppressors is positive

Do you seriously believe all that guff?

As long as the kids treated right I don't care what their parents are.

However from a slightly more scientific stand point I can't help but shake the feeling that a child could possibly lack a part of their upbringing when they don't have a biological male and female parent who are in a stable relationship.

So single parenting, gay couples, transgender parents, etc.

Also what about their school life? it's pretty terrible as it is if you're ginger or have a name that rhymes with something bad.

Let alone if your mum is actually a man.

My opinion though.

I really don't care what people who have no influence or impact on my life think. Over the years I have learnt that some people will take offence at anything, often incredibly benign things for most people. It's why I have never worried about the sensibilities of other people when it comes to opinion and use my own moral compass or right and wrong which I believe to be fairly balanced. If people say to me "I am personally offended by that thought, word or sentiment" I don't care, in fact I view them as feeble or self important, which is probably unfair, but in 50 years has proven to often be the case in my own experience.

I can't and won't ever please all the people all the time. Go with what you feel is right and prepare to offend some people but be indifferent to their offence. I think that mindset is very different to setting out to offend however, something I would not do but many actually do feel which is unreasonable...in my opinion. Your strong view on something does not mean I should share it or feel anything if you feel offense at it. The reverse of course being true if it's just opinion, no matter how passionately you or I hold that opinion.

The majority of people are a biological sex at birth, male or female. Their gender is often strongly linked to that, but can change depending on their self identification.

People should be (largely) free to be whomever they want. If a person is born, biologically male, but gender identifies with being considered female, there should be no problem with him living like that (even having surgery to help his transition).

I really do not see a problem with this, nor why other people do.

Also; actors act. An actor becomes other someone else.

There is no reason why a straight person can't play a trans person. But I am guessing there are many trans actors who are under represented in the film industry.

Then they can equally play non trans roles. It's about acting convincingly. Tom Cruise did a great performance in a wheelchair in Born on the Fourth of July. There was no need to cast a disabled actor for the role. Similarly, so long as you look a particular sex, then you should be able to audition for a character of that sex.

I was just wondering if I could theoretically become a woman and benefit from an earlier state pension, but it seems this very question is currently being asked at the highest court in the EU.

No doubt a trans man wouldn't be so keen on equality in this case and would argue to retain his / her / its original retirement age.

Undoubtedly, were it not for the fact that he's black.

I see no reason that should be a problem. The only requirements for James Bond are that he be English, Posh and seduce women seventeen years younger than him (as per the leads ages in the last film). Black would make no difference. Except to Americans who get all prissy about that stuff, maybe.

Wow, just shows my ignorance, I had never heard of the term cisgender!

there is more...

No, he'd still make a great Bond. 007/Bond is a moniker, one that has changed hands multiple times. Like M being played by a woman.

Actually, I just figured that he was a Time Lord. It would explain the improbable luck and the episodic regenerations.

Why do you need use anything? It is the trans person who deviates from the norm.

Do we have a special term for people who don't suffer from anxiety or depression? Why do we need a special term for people who don't suffer from gender disorders?

These are actually the reasons why they want to use the term CIS, because they feel that defining their state as a deviation or not normal casts their sate as less legitimate or wrong. They want terms that DON'T imply it is a disorder.

Tbh that's just over sensitive. There isn't anything wrong with being transsexual or transgender or whatever. Hetereosexual / straight is common. *shrug*

I think its oversensitive, but it's not really for me to say as I've not gone through the experiences many transexuals do. I suppose if I were such a person I might get ****ed off at people referring to me as a deviation the way Dowie referred to trans people above. Even though with a good grounding in statistics I'd recognize the validity of the term. Like with most things in society, I place the blame on poor education in mathematics and logical thinking in that people cannot resolve ambiguity in language adequately. Though given this is the case, I can understand people not wanting to be referred to as deviations or "not normal".
