Can anyone else not help but play the nice guy

Play a game where all your doing is being bad :P play GTA or something like that.

In my case I rarely stick to the story if its a sandbox and go around killing people e.g. in GTA I have yet to complete one as I usually start off doing missions to around 30% then just go around killing people and fighting the police :)
 
For me it depends on how much it'll affect the gameplay after, so usually the first time round I'll play the good guy and then if there's something which will really help me in the game but may have negative effects then I'll save just before doing that thing.
 
There are some RPGs (like Planescape Torment) with genuinely ambiguous morality, but they are few and far between compared to the Bioware\Bethesda staple.
