hey everyone, im building a new pc to use throughout uni doing a games design course. so i will be using programs like 3ds max, unreal editor ect. and also some major gaming including upcoming games like bf3 and skyrim. im on a budget on around £500-£600.
ive shopped around and looked at parts i need, i just need someone in the know to guide me in the right direction, any advice is welcome.

AMD Phenom II X6 Black Edition 1090T 3.2GHz
Asus m5a97 AM3+ socket, maybe the m5a99x because of sli. (i chose this socket as it supports bulldozer cpus which i can upgrade to later on.)
asus 550 Ti 1gb
500w power supply (good make such as corsair/ocz)
1TB Sata HD
DVD-RW

i just want to know if this seems a decent build, and will i get to play my games with nice framerates?
thankyou:)

i plan to use win 7 home, i would like to know if this build seems ok, and any alternatives to the parts ive chosen, do i have a good cpu? gpu ect.

Basically, a Intel i5 2500K is faster - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=146

So hows this,

Using a 6870 card which you can see here is faster than a 550ti - http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce_GTX_550_Ti_Sonic/23.html

and i thought about intel, but with them always changing sockets and what not it doesnt give me much long term benefits, as AMD's am3+ socket will.

stulid, might seem like a dumb question, but would an Nvidia card with its cuda cores help with game design? i know it wont be as fast for the money in terms of FPS in games but i know some CAD/CAM programs get sped up enormously with nvidia cards, and game design involves a lot of 3D modelling so it might help

Nah.

I know, I did try a 560ti build, but it was over budget, and the above is sweat enough.

Unless he comes back and says he wants Win7, already has a case etc.

yeah, i see what you mean. not pretty when you put the 560Ti in there:

totally auful build with a great graphics card
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £173.99
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £172.99
1 x Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION ** £70.98
1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W '80 Plus' Power Supply £45.98
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT51264BA160A) £43.19

Total : £600.70 (includes shipping : £10.50).

dont go for this

may sound dumb but why is this so bad?

also thanks to everyone for your input, it helps a lot. im going to see if i can get win7 with a student card. and yeah i will need a new case, but seen some decent ones for £40. and i think i will be going for the i5 now, i just thought the X6 will be better for 3d max work, im sure i read about it somewhere...
