can anyone recommend a cheap sound bar?

and the useful post of the week goes to....

exactly my point. someone posts asking what's the best cheap motorbike for £5K. someone comes along and says motorbikes are crap you are better off with a car. you can get a decent fiesta for £5K which will be much better. it will have more room, features, etc. you will be able to transport bigger things, etc. so it's better.

the point being he was after a motorbike and not once did he ever mention he wanted a car. just because you drive a car doesn't mean everyone else must drive or want a car as well.

Think the mods need to step in because you're all moaning about people suggesting anything over than a sound bar (which they're entitles to do) and it's gone on long enough hasn't it now.

Come on Troops, take a deep breath! :)

I hope the OP doesn't mind, but I was just about to start a thread with the same title. I recently bought a Sony HT-SF200 and returned it as I was underwhelmed. What would you guys recommend for the £200 price point; not specifically a sound bar. ;)

Edit: actually, I had to buy the Sony unit as I am restricted for space (width), so maybe I would be better off with speakers?

Hi,
Can anyone pls recommend a cheap soundbar under £200.

I have a Yamaha YSP 107 and its great. It's loud, clear and has enough bass for general movie use. I used to have a full AV setup but wanted more space and fewer cables, don't regret this at all.

Second hand / ex display is the way to go IMO. Samsung MS650 maybe.

have you bothered to read the thread? because both of those have been talked about and linked to.

it also mentions in the thread you will need to buy speaker wire and speaker stands on top as well. so you are looking at an additional £50 on top of the £200.

also if you are limited by space where are you planning to put the AVR? speaker stands?

also i have twice linked to the best soundbars for the money (best buy avforums).

they also have a best buy section for speakers too. maybe try looking there.

also at the £200 price point. why not just buy active speakers instead of an AVR and speaker combo? no need for an AVR, no need for speaker wire, etc either. everything you need comes with the speakers.

I saw the speakers mentioned, but not the AVR. Apologies for that.

Why stands, couldn't I just sit them on my TV unit?

I'm limited by width; 680mm. Maybe you need to read the thread, too? ;)

I'll continue my hunt through there, thanks.

afaik width is a measure of space.

also wouldn't speakers block the tv? i'm assuming he is limited due to it being a small tv and the legs get in the way.

thherefore having 2 speakers sat in the middle of the tv might be slightly annoying not being able to see half the screen?

basically he hasn't exactly explained his setup properly enough for anyone to make suggestions which would actually work.
