I've been looking for a fairly lightweight vacuum cleaner and having a small child I thought it might be a good idea to go for one that also cleans/washes the carpet!

A deal caught my eye for a Vax V-026RD Rapide Deluxe Upright Carpet and Upholstery Washer but I've no idea if it's any good!

Has anyone got any recommendations??

Thanks...

I got a cheapo Vax 6131T 3-in-1 Multivax Dry Vacuum and Carpet Washer £80 on amazon which has really good suction and does a good enough job at cleaning carpets.
The head that comes with it is a bit crap though (not rotating so wont life pethair) but you can buy better heads that fit from the other vax ranges

It's a bit bulky and a fairly simple design and looks a bit cheap but pulls along effortlessly and the power cord to it is ridiculously long

mostly 5 star reviews on amazon and the people that arent to happy with i being crap for pet hair still rate its carpet shampooing function

it will remove the everyday dirt as long as you wash your carpets every 1-2 months but probably would be useless on stains unless they are fresh and still wet
it's really noisy though

Wow!

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Regards getting a regular vacuum and hiring one for the carpet cleaning, to be honest I was really looking for one of my own so I can react quickly to certain spills (having a 2 year-old at the moment and another arriving imminently! :D)

I've been looking at this one: Vax V-026RD but I'm not sure if all of these carpet cleaner's can also be used as a regular (dry) vacuum?!?!?

I have a Dyson but it's one of those really compact ones with a long hose and to be honest it's rubbish!

that cant vacuum look at the box contents
Box Contains

1 × Upholstery wash tool

Miele.

If it can't shift the dirt then it is time to move house.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

If he wanted a run around shopping car would you recommend a Bugatti Veyron?

Blindly listing the most expensive appliance you can think of is not a recommendation of any description.

I had a wet and dry Vax, and it was definitely rubbish as a dry vacuum, and I didn't think it was much cop as a wet vacuum, although nothing else to compare it too.

As for the Miele comment, I moved to a Miele and it's great. It also only cost £160 so hardly expensive. Unfortunately for the OP it's obviously only a dry vacuum.

I've had a look around and there doesn't appear to be too many decent options for both a wet and dry cleaner! :(

I'm leaning towards the Vax 6131T as it seems to get decent reviews and my parents had a Vax previously and it was spot on!

Has anyone got one and can comment?

yea I said earlier :P

Good suction on my new carpets.
sucks the lino off my kitchen floor if I don't set the head to the hard floor mode.
bags for it are uber cheap on amazon and they hold quite a lot
stupidly long power cord
stupidly simple design which imo is a good thing
two seperate reservoirs inside one for clean water and one for the dirty water you suck back up (clean one only holds 4 litres or so though but the dirty one holds a lot more)
All the filters on it can be washed in warm water

looks fairly cheap but then again it is :p
quite bulky (4 wheels on it thought so its effortless to pull)
It's noisy. (1300watt though so I guess thats why)
Doesn't come with a rotating head thingy so won't pick up pet hair very well (some of the ones from other vax models fit though if you need one)
some people said there pump died after a week but they probably ran the pump without any water in it like tards? (they had no trouble getting a refund from amazon though)

I've not used it to shampoo my carpet but my ex has an older model thats almost identical apart from hers is purple and has a dial on the front so you can alter the motors speed and hers has a turbo pet hair head thingy.
Shes always been happy with how well it washs her carpets and as you can see from the amazon reviews the people who arent happy with it as a hoover (because they have pets) still rate it for its carpet cleaning function

Can you link or name some rotating heads that the 6131 please?

any 32mm head should fit such as "VAX PET VAX Vacuum TURBO HEAD FLOOR TOOL BRUSH "~

"Vax 6131 6151SX Pet Vac Wet & Dry Vacuum Turbo Head New" sounds better

You actually might be better of just getting a

Vax 6151F from argos 129.99 if you have pets looks like it comes with a far superior wash head this one http://www.vax.co.uk/spinscrub-wash-tool-1-9-130677-00
and its got a slightly more powerful motor

I'd get a decent vacuum and just hire a rug doctor from b&q, asda, johnsons etc. every 6 months. Most of the cheap carpet cleaners don't do a good enough job in my experience.

I can vouch for this. Near enough all your major supermarkets will do it. I rent one for the weekend and do the whole house, chairs and the cars while i am at it.

I think the Rug doctors retail around £500 so your going to need around 15 rents before you break even on buying one outright or 7 years of renting one every six months. Normally spring and autumn is when we do ours.

Our everyday cleaning is a Dyson DC07 with a couple of mods (HEPA filter and hard floor attachment).
