This doesn't concern me since I'm going in the army and my current skill set has got me accepted. But I'm discussing with a friend who's a complete idiot and he seems to think that he can get in uni or get a better job by buying fake certificates off the interwebs. but i have now plowed him down saying that any employer or uni can check and royaly own him. can someone confirm (link to a reputable website please i cant find any) since hes doing my head in. Ive also tried to explain to him that if it was that easy the whole system would become corrupt and no one would bother.

Valid certificates have on them a unique candidate number and centre number. Institions/employers can call up the examination board with this number and find out if the exams were actually sat and the grades achieved.

I doubt most of them would, but if theres any doubt they will and the person will be caught out.

Yes they can - they can simply request the results from the exam board.

Will they actually do it? Highly unlikely. It's still a massive risk to take though.

I have a friend who never passed gcse English, and lied about it. It hasn't backfired yet. Bright chap, didnt do any coursework.

Buying a fake is pretty daft as its no more secure than lying outright and probably worse legally.

You're coming across as pretty stupid yourself in this thread. Even ignoring the signature farce. Do you not understand the concept of a university or employer phoning an exam board? For that matter they could just call his school, as it would be suspicious to not list a place of education on a cv.

I know someone who lied about their A level grades, they got the job aswell and was never asked to present any certificates. Was a big company too, insurance I believe.

Same here.

Bloke is totally unqualified for his job, but has been with the same company for 14 years now and is currently Managing Director.

He's happy to buy me a pint or 10 when I see him around town, he knows that I know what he did.... ;)
