Can I challenge this bill increase?

I've only been with them 4 months and they wanted to increase mine by £3.49. I hate having to call them for discounts etc but it's relatively easy. The first person you talk to will give you £3 off, straight off the bar. Don't accept that, ask to talk to retentions or just say you're going to leave/look at Sky. Then just keep arguing until you're bored.

What does my nut is that when my landlords refurbished the place, for some reason they decided not to put an aerial in the lounge ( ). So we have to have Virgin or Sky, and there's no way in hell I'll ever pay Murdoch any money. Paying for a TV service seems like such an ancient idea to me, I'd much rather have Freeview.

And don't even get me started on the TiVo box, that thing is painful. The lady I talked to last week said the new one is out in November apparently.

I cancelled my virgin media package (except broadband) and went down the freeview route.

I use a now TV for the on demand services and that's it.

Don't miss virgin at all or their issues we had. every month they would mess the bills up which resulted in giving them another call.

Kept their BB as i have been with them since they started doing fiber (NTL days) and never had a issue so for me is reliable and fast (60mb connection) which is why i only kept the BB

Is only 3 quids a month. If you have reliable net, why not just stay? For something you use every day and all.

People often say BT is expensive but I've had faultless service from them. I'd happily pay a little more for no drops in speed or random outages.

Ring up and complain; they'll usually knock it down again but they may want you to lock into a year long contract to do it.

I cancelled mine about 2 years ago, was not because of the letter it was just down to us always watching everything on demand and not live tv so was pointless.

had a aerial etc already setup and a free view box built in to the tv so used that as well as already there

Virgin speeds are truly terrible

My friend is with Virgin and can't use PS4 share play because it keeps saying his Internet speed is not good enough. My BT fibre is brilliant. Strange as I always thought Virgin had the better network (apart from coverage).

they normally lock you in for another year if you change any services like BB speed increase\decrease or add\remove packages or tv channels.

wouldn't surprise me if they did lock you in for another year by changing your bill.

I get repeatedly annoyed at these letters from Virgin. Its all to subsidise their TV packages. So I always feel hard done to by having to pay more for my internet when I aren't a TV customer. Infuriating.

So take a Sky TV and keep the broadband? Best of both worlds?

Yeah I looked at that when taking it out but it works out cheaper to get it all as a package. When I took the contract with virgin I only wanted the BB but adding phone (don't even have one connected) and M+ TV package made it cheaper than BB alone. I asked the guy at the time why and he had no answer.

I received a similar email telling me my bill would be increasing by £2.99.
I called retentions and was told the increase does not apply to my account.

I phoned to cancel a few weeks back, got money knocked off for 6 months. Fine by me as fibre is finally in my area. I love my 200mb BB but I can live with 76mb if it saving me £18 a month.

Here's my monthly bill from TalkTalk

Free phone calls included + upgraded fibre

May be worth giving them a call for £27 a month I get:

TV (with recording TV box)
Faster Broadband (38mb)
Phone (Unlimited Evening & Weekends)
Line Rental
Sim Card with 200 min, Unlimited Texts & 500mb data

mine is going up £4.50 i have phone / unlimited calls and tv though so paying about £52 all in , you might get a a loyalty discount if you have a moan at them £5 off per month for 18 months. but bear in mind this means signing up to a new contract.

they just upgraded my speed to 70mb so i think it's not bad for what i have, i first got cable in 2000 it was £33 per month for a 512k connection no phone nor tv !

I just called virgin, I'm in contract until next July.

My current bill is £92.98 for
300mb internet
XL TV
Landline

They have given me a £9 discount and there is no contract renewal. I think I will get a better deal next July once my contract is up!

I did get my first 9 months for £48 a month as a new contract, but that has just expired.

I've had a look and for what I'm getting at the moment a new customer would get for around £20 less for the duration of a 12 month contract.
I've been out of contract for well over a year now but don't mind signing another 12 month one so if they don't offer me something close to that when I call later I won't be happy.
