Can I get anything worthwhile for under 1k?

If your only looking for a car to tide you over a short period then the only good thing about buying a Mk3 Golf is you will still get a decent price for it regardless of it's condition.

It's cheap because v5 bora's aren't that popular due to their fuel consumption, but that is the older 150bhp v5 which is even less popular because it has less poke and it's just as thirsty. don't be fooled by the listing, W reg means it's the older engine.

mk2 mondeo are the older shape ones like Fox kined for £500.
mk3's are the newer ones like you linked earlier.

I'd consider a mk3 as well - you can get one for close to £1k. high mileage diesels are extremely likely to throw massive bills at you though so steer clear.

I see! Was just wondering thats all :).

We've had the 2L bora since 2006 and its been very reliable.

Only problem as fox said is I guess they hold their price more.

Anybody suggested a Ka yet?
I admit I've forgotten how reliable they actually are, but being chain driven then surely that's a huge point to consider? Also constantly being sold as first time drivers cars etc so should hold some value.
But looking at OP's own suggestions size and boot space is needed.

Jesus Christ will people stop posting £1000 BMWs please.

I have a bubble shape (k11) Micra and have had it a fair few years. They are bombproof, yet are cheap because they don't 'look cool'. That is my recommendation, but overall you just want something that isn't falling apart and has a long MOT. Also make sure the tyres have some life left in them - You don't want to be splashing out on a new set of tyres on a £1000 car to tide you over for a while.

A 60k mile 02 Focus for under a grand? Wonder what thats hiding.

The point here is to buy a car thats cheap because nobody wants one not because it's dodgy, is a nail, is ****ed, or whatever. That means no cars which normally are very popular or sell more.

Oh what the heck, nobody is listening anyway.

Buy that. I mean the airbag light is on and the box is screwed but who cares? It's in budget and has the right badge!

Finance a big Mercedes, make sure you don't get a warranty and it has that brilliantly reliable airmatic suspension stuff that never goes wrong and is dead cheap to replace. Clearly the OP is poorly written and his request is not actually for anything decent/tidy/reliable ergo anything is game for suggestion right?

yep, I think the day someone buys something on the advice of this forum, I will literally laugh myself to death.

It always goes:

OP: guys I'm looking for a reliable cheap motorway car...........

ocuk: MONDEO OR SUPERB!

(2 days later)

OP: Guys I've just bought an alfa spider 100k+ on the clock and no mot!........

Seeing as the op doesn't seem to want what the request is for and as we are "branching out" a bit.....
