Can i get BT to remove Cap

I have got my package upgraded, they are giving 14mb for £15 a month and free modem and stuff, not that i will use it. However the cap is still on tonight, so i will give them an earful tomorrow to take off the cap as i was promised it would go with the update. It is a new contract i will be starting as well, so if i dont get a promise that with the new package that starts tomorrow there will be no cap, im leaving.

Wait; you realised how poor BT are, they capped the shnizzle out of you, and you asked for recommendations. Everyone recommended Be and Virgin (I'm on 50 meg btw), so you just renew your contract with BT on a slightly different package. Oh, and you're still capped. Is that about it?

Well, other companies cant offer the same speed as BT, if you can believe that, plus its less money a month, tbh, in sepember there will only be 2 people living in the house, so the usage will be low. In 12 months if there are companies offering ADSL2 speeds in my area i will revisit it, but Be wont be available for at least 5 months. Also, Virgin dont offer a service in my area, the other providers are rubbish, sky, talk talk and a random one. Its either Be or BT, remember, if i cant get the cap off tomoz i will be going with Be, its just i would like more speed and BT are the only onces offering it, especially at £15 a month.

How can you go with Be if your cap isn't lifted tomorrow, if you've just signed up to a new (18 month?) contract with BT? You said Be aren't available for another five months in your area? :(

From what you've just said, I'm presuming you have NO LLU providers in your exchange at all, but BT are offering 21cN so you can have ADSL2+. Is that about it?

What i meant was, that Be doesnt have ADSL2 kit in at my exchange, so its a 8mb max, also the contract goes live tomorow and i have until the update to cancel, so basically about 1pm, its a 12 month deal as well.

Gotcha. So no other LLU providers at your exchange (Sky/Easynet for example)? In your position I'd probably suffer through the 8Mbps with Be and basically tell them I want to go on the list to be upgraded to LLU ADSL2+ (24 meg) as soon as it's installed. No way would I want to stick with BT for another 12 months. They really are bad. Then again I don't know how Be would fare either, since they're forced to use BT's ipstream in your case. :( Anything's gotta be better than BT though, surely. LOL

Well maybe, you arnt going to believe what just dropped into my mail box the day before im upgraded to ADSL2, "BT Inifinity will be available very soon in your area". To be precise, 30 June. Hmm, very difficult decision, they promise over 7mb upload speed and a bump in download, now i have to decided whether to cancel for Be, or cancel for vDSL from BT, any opinions?

No, there not just going to make an exception for you, if they don't have an option for it then you can't get it atm. If you want higher than 100GB I'd look towards the 50Mb service from Virgin (Don't ever go lower than 50Meg as those services have throttling which is horrific OMG OMG OMG JIZZ from Virgin).

BT have a Live chat feature on their website now, search on google, try it on Monday when their open.

Please, don't be so dramatic.

VM's 20MB service has a very reasonable throttle system in place. You get throttle for a few hours to 5MB speeds IF you download 7.5GB between 10am and 3PM or 3.5GB between 4PM and 9PM.

Between 9PM and 10AM you can download all you like at 20MB speeds which, to be honest, is the time frame MOST Linux Distro downloaders operate anyway.

Virgin don't have a 20 MB service, it's 20 Mb.

I partially agree, but still feel that 3.5 GB between 4pm and 9pm is a bit draconian. A family of four using iPlayer YouTube etc. can easily hit this limit very quickly, especially if it's iPlayer HD. That said, the 5Mb cap still provides a decent enough speed for most activities and probably still beat 90% of ADSL services :p.

Exactly. If that's not enough then you can always upgrade to 50 megs, which isn't much dearer at all. If you're out of contract you can often swing a deal that ends up cheaper overall as well. I <3 my 50 meg line. :D

Virgin throttling can get a bit annoying, I live in a shared house, so with all of us watching iplayer and streaming other media (and me playing games) those limits come up rather quickly

Switching from Bt to BE? Going to have a small shock to the system m8 :)

Seconded :)

You may find a little bit of sex wee pop out when you download your first file :D

I couldnt go back on a 1mb or 2mb connection now, its like the 56k of the broadband world, its horrible

Well, i got my homehub and phone thing for free, but aparently BT keep spamming the modem testing it, i will stick with my trusty Belkin ADSL2 router for the time being. Seen a good speed bump in DL and UL. Im going to get the Fibre installed next week probably, so i might a black homehub and a belkin router to sell to buy a new router.

1gb a day isn't enough? Not to menchen that I doubt its evenly split out of the 100gb. What the hell are you downloading. I don't know how i'd possibly use 1gb a day. You say steam games but thats a one off thing. Unless you like to uninstall them for fun? YOu must be pirating films and box set series non stop. Thats the only way you could ever get through that much.

I'd go with Be. The only ones who don't speed cap.

LOL It's barely the equivalent of three eps on iPlayer a day; hardly pirate of the universe.
