Can I overclock this?

Hi

I'm looking for a bit of a boost to my 2 year old pre-built system. The spec is

Q6600 @ 2.4GHz with the retail cooler fitted
Biostar GF7050V-M7
8800GTS 320Mb
2GB PC2-5300

Here's the tricky bit. The system fits into a built in desk/unit with about 25mm clearance on each side and about 200mm on top. Speedfan is reporting

GPU 63C
Core 0 52C
Core 1 54C
Core 2 51C
Core 3 50C

I'm guessing that those temps are way too high to start off with. Moving the case out of the unit is a non-starter I'm afraid (single men look bemused whilst married men know exactly what I'm talking about). What do you reckon? Is an aftermarket cooler going to have enough impact?

If I'm not overclocking I was looking at the graphics card. I game at 1680 x 1050 (max on my monitor). I was thinking of a 5770.

Thanks for the response. Do I need to remove the motherboard to fit that cooler? I read that some need a back plate.

Cheers

Looks like it uses a backplate, you can get a version of the Artic Freezer that uses the same push pins as the stock cooler

Married man here!! lol

I have to have my PC in a hideaway computer desk and have found that an Antec 300 case (compact but excellent airflow) and a Freezer 7 Pro keep my OC'd E5200 temps at 35deg idle and 50deg full chat.

You should find that combo will serve you well (and not break the bank).

no it uses push pins! google arctic cooling that will give you the info needed!

Can you recommend one that does use push pins?

Cheers

Hi Tony,

I have an Artic Freezer Pro 7 (with push pins), I have only used it for 2 months. Let me know if you would like to buy it for £20 including post and packaging.

Changed it cos I hated the push and pin, as I nearly snapped my motherboard into 2 pieces and I managed to get it fitted after 2 hours on my 1st time.

Bashy.
