Can I use the 360 on an older 15" TFT?

If your planning on having it set up on your desk can you not use your pc monitor?

My main monitor is a crappy 17" CRT which really needs replacing :/

Sometimes. I keep forgetting to log into it. You can always reach me by email (in sig) if I'm not online :)

Ah ok, unless its really crappy though i'd pick the 17" crt over an old 15" TFT (that is assuming old = slow refresh rate) Either way both are a cheap way of getting high resolution lovelyness :D

This may sound dumb, but I thought you had to use a TFT to get the full benefit of HD?

What about HDTV's :p

5:4 screens are crap because HD resolutions are widescreen and should be displayed that way.

Hmmm, well my monitor certainly needs replacing, might get a 19" CRT (they're only just over £100 now) and then pick up a VGA cable should I see one floating around. Cheers mate :)

For a little more you can pick up a decent (response time etc) el cheapo 19" TFT, i would go for that over a CRT. I had one made by Digimate before I bought my 26" LCD, i honestly couldn't fault it for the money.

Edit: mine had both VGA and DVI so i could use it for both PC and 360 if I wanted.

I wouldn't, especially not for games.

Well i'm a gamer and the monitor was superb for it. 16ms is good for games IMO, never saw any ghosting. My 26" LCD is also 16ms and never see any ghosting on it.

Congrats but the 17" 16ms TFT I used to have ghosted like hell in fast moving games. All TFTs ghost to some extent, even the most expensive, compared to CRTs.

Sure, some TFTs will be bad and suffer heavily from ghosting but you can't say that all LCD/TFTs are crap for games, just because they are 'prone' to ghosting. The Digimate 19" LCD i had was such a bargain, it can be had for £145 inc vat with both VGA and DVI and was superb for everything I threw at it.

Just to reiterate, the 360 output's a widescreen signal, why are you looking at square aspect screens? You'll only use 2 thirds of the screen if you get a square one.

Does the 360 not have a mode where it will output a 4:3 picture? Albeit 640x480.

Via the 360 VGA cable you can select most resolutions such 1024x768 and 1280x1024 as well as the widescreen resolutions.

This isnt my picture but its taken from the 360 setup thread (nokkonwud's setup). I think this looks superb and it just goes to show how good the 360 can look on a 19" TFT. The borders wouldn't be an issue for me.

1280x1024 causes PGR3's aspect to be completely wrong, dial's are no longer round, everythings tall and thin, other games just letterbox regardless.
