Can money buy happiness?

I'm quite certain that all parameters remaining the same, if I suddenly came into a substantial sum of money I would be happier. So, I guess under that assumption money would buy happiness, but it's relative happiness. I don't think money could buy you a 'perfect' happiness, it just makes things easier and allows you luxuries.

lots of money doesn't necessarily make someone happy though it might well increase the chances that they are

a lack of money can certainly make someone unhappy

Very true. At least, for me anyway. Seeing as everything that I need to make me happy (including visiting women in Norwich that keep getting in contact with me, Point Blank music school, equipment, alcohol, a private hitman and a car) cost a lot of money, having a lack of makes me sad.

Of course, my friends, making music, and cheap alcohol also make me happy.

But again, if I have no money I cannot pay for gas or electricity, which means I'll be cold and bored.

On the other hand, pornhub is free.

Dammit I now can't make up my mind.

it cannot purchase out right happiness

but it can purchase the items needed for happiness. money is one of the biggest stresses/restraints of modern life. if i could afford to do the things i wanted id be much happier

Money offers choices and can remove a lot of worries. Having more opportunities means you have more opportunities to be happy, but ultimately you are in control of your own happiness. Some people will never be happy, others will always be, but most of us would probably be a bit happier if money wasn't an immediate concern because we could easily focus on a fulfilling life rather than paying the bills.

In a word, no.

Anyone who disagrees clearly hasn't ever been in contact with a lot of money.

It can bring short-term happiness, but long-term, definitely not. That has to come from you.

I believe it does, yes.

I tell you, if I found out any time soon that I'd never have to work again and would be able to break away from the 9-5, 5 day week, I'd be utterly ecstatic as I hate having to work. Anyone would be. You might get bored after a while, but just do something interesting with your time instead. You could travel, do a rewarding job (charity), or whatever takes your fancy. It'd rock.

Depends entirely on your definition of happiness, but life satisfaction tends to correlate quite highly with GDP per capita.

Also, to not be tied to the need to earn money would be surprisingly liberating.

Money and Love will make you happy, although, love can make you happy on its own. Money can't.

I'd be happy with that even if I had nothing of any great value (in monetary terms), maybe a bit of land, a few pigs, chickens - a bit like the Good Life, and may as well add Felicity Kendal in there too, that would do me fine.

I could definitely find myself eaily tied to that sort of life. :)

I suppose it also depends on where the money comes from, if you are working your nuts off to generate the money then that's not going to help
