Can SSDs Give the Best Reliability?

I'm after a new external storage drive. I would like it to be as reliable as possible, and am wondering what is better for reliability, standard hard drives, or should I go SSD? If SSD, which SSDs have a reputation for being reliable?

SSD would be more reliable.

Samsung and WD both do USB SSDs.
