I’m looking for a hobby tool but I cannot find one anywhere.

Basically it’s like an extra pair of hands. It’s used in modelling, electronics, soldering etc.

It has a base with a column. That column has a horizontal bar across with movable crocodile clips on the ends. They can be moved to different angles. They are often found with a magnifying glass attached to the top. I’m sorry for the vague description, but its the best I can do. I’ve been looking on Google but to no avail.

would be very grateful if someone with better Google fu skills could help me out. There’s a virtual hug in it for you. TIA.

I googled "extra pair of hands modelling soldering" and immediately found what you wanted.

Mini Dr Octopus in the making :D.

I think that with a head worn magnifier would be more useful than the helping hands. I could never get on with those for painting and electronics work as the focus didn't move with me.

I need to get something sorted so I can get painting properly now new wet palette has arrived and I actually have some space after a bit of house clearance.

This might be a better option

Depending on size of what you're painting

Panavise (yes that's how it's spelt) Top quality (above average... ;)) BUT bear in mind depending on what you need holding, it's often a bad situation to have it high off the work surface. For ultimate, fine dexterity you need your wrists or forearms supported.
