OC to the rescue!
I cycle quite a bit (commuting) and have had a few near misses, it's flippin awkward when filtering, you have to expect the unexpected, car doors, or even worse cars deciding they'll randomly pop out and overtake stationary cars to make a right turn etc..
I have to say that although the car driver is technically always at fault in these cases, your boss sounds like he was filtering far too fast if he went over the handlebars etc, I've seen some right nutters who just go flat out everywhere on their bikes and oddly are always 'running' into issues with cars/pedestrians etc..
Mind you, that's just an observation from what has been said, I've had a car approach me from behind for about 10 seconds, pull alongside and just turn left into a side road right at me, I glanced off them, stopped, stood there really shaken as they just tootled off up the road.. sometimes you really can't win on a bike!
