Can you return a carrier bag?

I scanned the bar code on the bottom of adds 6p bag as per Facebook posts.

Guy came over and told us it was theft and should call the police.

I just said no bother mate and kept walking. Was a bit awkward.

You what? Bottom of adds bag? Facebook posts? You drunk?

I tend to buy them when out shopping for anything other than food, else i take reusable bags.

Frankly i do find some of it a bit silly, i bought some knives the other day, it was in a clear box, but the shop was happy for me to have walked out without even needing a bag.

You don't care about the price, except you refused to trade over the price?

No you misunderstood what I wrote. I refused to trade because I felt the company was using the new law to make additional profit at my expense. The price itself was not the issue. The issue at hand was the fact everywhere else charged x pence by law but this company charged 2x pence and therefore was likely to be using it to boost their profits.

Why do so many people on here try to make themselves look clever by deliberatly picking holes in someone's point? It doesn't make them look clever at all.

Why is this carrier bag thing such an ordeal for some:D

I think it's been a great thing since being introduced, don't see as many bags littered around anymore.

I don't see why people get all upset about it.. It's a good thing imo.. I have a couple of 10p reusable ones which are plenty sturdy enough for most things.

Before I was just lazy like I suspect most people were and got new bags every visit.

I suppose as you buy them the sale of goods act would apply.. Don't know how you'd prove it was faulty though.. Shop could argue you've used it to carry too much weight etc..?

They will replace it free of charge for a new one as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Just a random question, I don't intend to try and get my 5p per bag back but what are peoples thoughts.. A supermarket has a return policy of 30 days. You can return anything in that time which you decide you no longer want or it is not quite what you thought, eg if you bought some kitchen scales, took them home tried them out and realised the quality is not good so took them back...

Could you use this same argument with a bag? It's noted on your receipt as 5p, 6p etc?:confused:

Why would you want to?! Don't be a tramp

The robbing git at the local Premiere has started charging 5p now, I thought it only applied to larger retailers such as Tescos etc.. he's jumped on the bandwagon now. Also charges £1 to use your card and packs of Walkers are 90p.. cheek of it!

5p at Blue Inc gets you a nifty drawstring bag perfect for gym/swimming which is still serving me well - granted they used to rbe fee, but now atleast make you feel like your getting a bargain compared to the crap the supermarkets give you!

Every Saturday the wife does a big shop and comes in with at least 10 bags,
So that's 50p x 52 = £26 a year.
I can think of better things to spend £26 on.

Thats a lot of bags

Id say cost a year for me is more like 15, not worth hassle of say 70 quids worth of shopping turning up without bags. It's only 40p every two weeks. No way I would want all that shopping rolling around in my car

I use click and collect. Think it's 40p no matter how many bags.

I'd imagine you probably could refund them. I don't have a receipt on me to check at the moment but I'm pretty sure they must be listed on the receipt, in which case the same rules must apply to them as to everything else?

cheapest way is tesco bag for life, 10p..soon as it rips u can exchange it for another absolutly free..never have to pay for any ever

only bad thing is..forgetting them like leaving home without them or leaving in the boot of the car

We need eco-friendly "Boris bags" to place in the basket of our temporary "Boris bike."
