Can you return a carrier bag?

Exploitation? Hardly, it's a retail store, they are there to take your money. Also, they could have easily have reduced the product by £0.50, then charged £0.10 for a bag, are they really ripping you off?

And my point is that I am not forced to buy from a store which charges 2x pence for a carrier bag. I got to the till and found they wanted more money for an equivalent product than other nearby stores. I felt they were using the recent change in law to profiteer and chose not to spend my money there.

A perfect example of capitalism and voting with my wallet, no? Your initial reply was one of being unable to understand my point which was very clearly laid out.

What I've found funny when shopping recently is how many people, some quite inventively, try and get out of paying 5p for a bag but had 5p conveniently to hand so knew they were likely to have to pay it also had to laugh at some guy making a bit of drama about it when he was purchasing expensive electrical goods :s

Or the person juggling 10 items in their arms only to drop and break it - all to save 5p.

This whole bag thing has annoyed me. I get really worked up about it.

Shopping trip to screwfix the other week was amusing, purchased loads of items some big lot and lots of small items. It was pre-ordered and when i got there it was all in bags, i said i didn't want them so it was all stacked up on the collection point, took me 5 trips to the car to carry it all out, held everyone else up as no one could get near the counter.
They look at you like your stupid because you don't want to pay 50p for a pile of plastic bags.
Like people say they will continue to take advantage until people say enough is enough.

I didnt realize that bags for life are replaced free of charge if they break.

Ive got a couple here that are broken I will try to get swapped now

People getting far to upset with the "why would you want to" OP clearly said he doesn't want to.. Its just a thought.

Yep! I don't mind paying 5p, if I keep bags and forget to take them into the shop it's my fault and I will pay the 5p. Although, I don't keep bags to take to the shop anyway I am still happy to pay the 5p everytime it is needed. However if I go to my local shop for some milk, cereal and a bar of chocolate I don't get a bag to walk to my car outside the door... But then I never have when they were free either.
