Notes are also helpful if you lose your way - you don't want to end up looking like a muppet if you blank out.

As everyone has already pointed out, you shouldn't be seen in a negative light for doing so.

You could just add your notes to the presentation itself and set the laptop up so you can see them at the same time as your slides - then you still have the notes and don't need to worry about them?

This man is right you can do with powerpoint.

Don't have PowerPoint notes instead of the cards - if the laptop or projector or whatever breaks and you can still give a talk without the slides you'll come across a lot stronger than someone who can't continue.
