The Lancaster Canal and River Lune wild birds have been decimated this year by Bird Flu. I walk down the canal every day to work and have been following a pair of swans who got seven cygnets ready to go solo, only for them to all die in a week before they left the parents. Two large ducks of mixed parentage died on the same stretch, and a few adult swans died on the river nearby. I hope the Muscovy Ducks on the canal further south survived. The pure mallards and the pintail ducks seem unaffected.
