Canadian Grand Prix 2010, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal - Race 8/19

How have Mclaren messed up? If there is rain or SC they'll do well. If it is completely dry or no SC (not likely?) they could lose out.

It may take 2-3 laps to get the hards up to temp but after 5 laps the softs will be shot with a full car. If I fancied anyone on the softs to make them last it will be alonso, no one has been better on the tyres this year.

Lewis knows that he can take the warm up lap just at the right speed to keep softs hot
but slow enough for the RB hard tires to cool off.

I think Button is the best on tires so far, Ferrari has not been fast enough to strain the tires :)

From what I've read, Alonso/Ferrari have been the best with tyres so far this season. I've never seen any reports this season to suggest that Button has been better than other drivers, with regards to his tyres, this season.

With regards to Lewis going slow enough to keep the RedBull cars' tyres cool - dude seriously...thats just nonsense.

Hoping Button can make the soft tyres last a few laps longer, to give a bit more flexibility on when to pit and maybe not stop twice, like some others are likely to do?

Well I have to admit to growing to like Lewis & I want him to win this race, I have nowt against Jenson & love his driving style but Lewis seems more my kind of racer.
Now they have stopped with all his family BS & batty kissing & you actually get to see his character I think he shines through as a Real Racer.

There I've said it. :p:p:p

If anything it's those that start on the hards that have that option - best chance for Button would be an early change to hards (hopefully under safety car) then two long stints on hards and hope to jump those doing their two stops later.

i think hamilton is going to go all out for 5 or 6 laps to try and pull a gap while the hard tires get up to speed then hope he can get a stop with no hiccups. or a first lap SC and jump in the pits for hards.

its been mentioned a few times that mclaren have a big update coming at silverstone, whens red bulls next big update?

Between Valencia and Germany depending on when they get everything pulled in. Should see the F-Duct at Valencia - whether thats part of a bigger package or just a stop gap isn't really known though.

The bigger question is what the upgrade would feature, as we're expecting the other teams to introduce Red Bull style diffuser enhancing exhausts - other than an F-duct there are no obvious poaches that Red Bull could use, rather it would be another round of evolution of the design much like at Barcelona - but surely there is now less to optimise?

How is it nonsense? :/
Seems perfectly logical to me :p

I'm not sure he knows any other way to drive to be honest....it might work for him today, it might not.

Because as JRS said, Hamilton doesnt drive slow on purpose. He will drive, eye balls out, placing his car on the ragged edge, every time. Thats his style.

Dare I say it, I've never heard of a driver going slow on purpose to make drivers behind him go slow, so that their tyres remain cool. I've never ever heard of such an insane strategy - a strategy which could end up seeing Hamilton getting overtaken as the RedBulls behind him may actually have a faster car.

For a driver to dare to do such a thing, he would probably need a car capable of going about 3s/lap faster. This would mean that even if the car behind attempts an overtake (bearing in mind that you are driving slowly on purpose), you can quickly pick up the speed and outpace the car behind.

Hamilton does not have this car advantage.

apposed to trying to make the tires last longer i meant.

i thought he ment on the warm up lap, since you cant overtake, hamilton could take an ages to get round the last corner and straight while keeping more heat in his tires than the RBs.

Updates are happening at every single race. Don't be fooled into thinking that cars remain the same until a big update occurs.

A prime example was in the last race, where RedBull had a "big" update, yet McLaren, were the ones who seemed to have taken a step forward, even though they only had an "incremental" update.

So, in answer to your question, RedBull will be bringing an updated car to the next race, as will most other leading teams.

Personally, I think when teams talk up their "big update", they are merely playing psychological games.

when they say big up date they normally change a lot of parts, were as most races all the teams add a new piece or two.

I think whitmarsh said the hope for 4-5 tenths from the new stuff, so maybe they also have a exhaust design like rb do now.

YEP...There's method in my madness :D

I can remember in the 70-80s when the cars at the back of the grid used to take their time lining up so the front runners would over heat.
