Canadian Grand Prix 2011, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve - Race 7/19

Good race good result long wait...

As an aside AcidHell2 I wish you wouldn't post using your crApple product as it makes out your a 7 year old with it's autocorrect "feature"

Trust me it's no better on a pc. Rather than auto correct, it's just eligible instead.

No action taken by stewards over Button/Alonso collision.

Still leaves the Button/Hamilton incident

Well that's one bullet dodged, let's hope for same outcome. I can't see them penalising that incident and not Alonsos one.

I don't fail to acknowledge it, I've acknowledged it several times. It's an over take button pure and simple. It's not racing and never can be. Dirty air is no longer such a problem as you make it out to be and can be improved even more. We have seen time and again this season, cars literally under each others gear boxes, despite 0.5sec average and not in DRS zone. Overtaking shouldn't and doesn't need to be a breeze.

Yeah, DRS has made overtaking a push button manoeuvre

It has at some races and at the other races it's useless and we still have overtaking.

You just have to look at today for how many overtakes were DRS and a clear pass. More than people realise when you look back in the midfield.

Trust me, overtaking is NEVER a pushbutton affair, DRS just adds some straightline speed which then has to be scrubbed off at the corner, requiring earlier braking (not breaking ;)) so results in more dicing, 2 cars abreast in a croner etc etc.

.

Re watch the race, it most certainly was a push button, drove clear around and back on racing line before the breaking zone in several cases. Only when coming from further back was it into the braking zone. As with MSC and Webber, as the Mercedes had great traction and pulled a lead before DRS kicked in. Compare that to JB on MSC where the Mclaren traction was comparable and it was a clean drive around.

Man that would be amazing or even Ferrari. However he doesn't have much hope.
Mclarens sealed off and Ferrari/RBR have a clear number 1 driver for years to come. Unless another car like mercedes comes good, I don't have much faith in Diresta getting a good drive, where he can thrive.

Sorry but DRS may have been a deciding factor, but it was not the only factor that allowed a pass, without seeing side by side telemetry we will never know, but some of us will just assume.

Of course it was a deciding factor,in a lot of passes it was pretty much the only factor. You just need to watch the video of the closing speeds once the wing pops open. It's clear as day. Even the commentators were saying it and drivers.

The reason webber made it look hard, wasn't because button was better. But because the merc had much better traction out of the final corner than webber. Visually pulling away, meaning webber took longer to catch. That shows you how easy DRS makes it. You can be falling back and still have a go.

Thing is racing, not pure entertainment and if they solved the issues like they were going to do in 2013, it's not even needed.

Not going to happen.

I know that you want to see less aero dependence and more dependence on mechanical grip (like the old days), but this is 2011. Things have changed

they have and are doing it, higher nose, smaller wings, no winglets between axles, double diffuser.
They finally get to a point where there rules are working well and they panic add a knee jerk reaction and then seemingly give up.

As for Button he's not under the same pressure to win titles, he knows there are 3-4 other drivers on the grid faster than him, had he not fishtailed Alonso yesterday Alonso would've won it. I've just seen an article proclaiming it to the best victory in the history of F1, hardly... he (accidently I accept) took out two of his faster opponents and then lucked it at the end when Vettel ran wide.

You could say that stuff for every f1 race, it was an amazing drive, altime best I don't know. But it certainly was a drive and a half.

Di Resta not happy.

Di Resta aggrieved at 'harsh' drive-through penalty
Paul di Resta has hit-out at the drive-through penalty he incurred during the Canadian Grand Prix, branding the decision "ridiculous".

I wish teams did fight the FIA more.it might force them to have a rethink of rules and make designs far fairly.

Oh an lotus sign big sponsors GE
Team Lotus secures GE backing
Team Lotus has announced a major new sponsorship deal and technology partnership with General Electric.
GE branding will appear on the Lotus cars and infrastructure from next month's Silverstone race onwards, and team boss Tony Fernandes said the partnership would go much deeper than a standard sponsorship.
