Why does the positioning graphic down the side of the screen seem really sporadic in its existence?
Did JB set a time, or is he playing the silly saving tyres game?
Red Bull looking fast, credit where credit is due!, they have come through with the upgrade packages at the right time and capitalised. Unlike Mclaren.
Also, did someone mention they saw Hamilton on the limiter in qually?
Do they never learn?! He's going to DRS up behind someone, get a tow and be bouncing his way off the limiter unable to pass..
lol, RB found another way to get around the rules?
Button, lol, he takes it too easy, he refuses to drive aggressively, no one else has tire problems in general except him. Even more ridiculously, with tires that aren't fast, he pits repeatedly expecting a different result from the same tires. He's slow, he's slow on the first set of tires and the second set, he pitted 3 times with no reason as the new tires were never faster. The problem is him and his driving style, he could have done a one stop at exactly the same pace. He gained nothing by pitting, just pushed himself further and further back.
Here's a hint Button, push the car more and the tyres will be hotter, 20 other drivers can manage it. Mclaren actually had the fastest race pace car today and a great qualifying car, Button just can't drive it.
Still have to wonder, if he can't get any heat in the tyres at all, how can he get within 3/10ths of Hamilton in qualifying, the same gap he's had for 3 years? Surely if the tyres have no heat he can't do any good laps.
Lastly, I might be wrong but, didn't Button do a lap in Q3 in softs, but he locked up badly so both did a **** lap and was forced to start on softs he'd hurt pretty badly. Which is why, I guess Perez/Kimi went SO much further on softs because they had completely fresh softs while Button had used/abused ones. Though I still think he came in for tyres more thinking he would be faster than because they were totally gone by that point.
Button added that he didn't believe the problems stemmed from the Pirelli tyres directly, when asked whether the harder compounds on offer in Valencia could help him solve his problems, and pointed towards it being a set-up problem.
"It's not the tyres, it's definitely not a tyre issue. I'm the only person who can't drive the tyres? No, it is impossible."
"I have massive degradation and I stopped before most runners and I was on the prime tyre. Obviously the car with a certain set-up is very quick but what I was driving was not a winning car.
"It's been the same for the last couple of races and I don't know why because it is normally something I am pretty good at. I'm driving round 1.5 seconds slower than the leaders and one is my team-mate but I can't go any quicker."
Probably be shot down for this suggestion but would giving everyone a limited number of DRS 'opens' a race which they can use whenever be a better solution? Say 10 a race or something.
There would be a bit of cat and mouse over whether or not the guy behind would use his and maybe you could hold onto them until the end of the race and use them to make a few passes or early on to gain track position.
There's probably an obvious reason I'm missing why this would be a **** idea though
Yeah, apart from the obvious accusations of being 'gimmicky' and 'fake' that always comes with this sort of thing, it worked really well in A1GP.
There was something funky with qualifying too if I remember? Something like having 2 qualifying sessions (1 for each race) but only 1 boost available.
they bring him in because the tyres lose temprature and he can never warm them up again after, they come out of there blankets warmer and give him another chance to keep them warm.
but his girly driving style isnt creating enough friction to put heat into the tyres
He ran the same rear suspension setup that Hamilton did, and he won the race, on a setup he felt was working the tyres far to hard to be able to do a 1 stop...
autosport said:"Jenson is a great racing driver and we served him badly this weekend. His rear tyres were completely shot. We didn't long-run with this suspension set-up on Friday and that was our fault - as we didn't give him a race car he could perform in.
"But we know how smart and strong-minded he is. So he will keep his head up, and he could be the first driver to repeat a win this season."
Whitmarsh revealed that McLaren tried out a new rear suspension configuration with Button in Canada, to try and help him overcome his main problem which is switching the tyres on.
@Duke - I thought Whitmarsh confirmed after the race that the different setup was what they planned to run on Friday but didn't due to all the problems, and that they reverted to the same setup at Hamilton for Sat and Sun?
