Yes the G7 has better technical specs but surely does not possess a better lens ?

Smart upgrade from an S3 IS should be a DSLR imo... maybe a Canon EOS 350? Or go cheaper and get a Nikon D40?

Indeed my thoughts exactly.

At the time I purchased the S3-IS I really wanted to have SLR quality pics but settled for half way house and to be honest it's not a bad camera, just lets me down on high ISO with a fair bit of digital noise in the dark.

For me it works better than the S3-IS - with the exception of the movie mode. The whole feel and useability of the camera is an improvement over the S3 (Get hold of one and you may feel the same), and therfore i get the shots i want to get.

Yes i have lost the zoom of the S3, but i am more likely to have the G7 with me as it is smaller and easier to carry around (hence the reason for me not geting a DSLR)

Not everyone wants a DSLR (I fall into that category), they just want very good quality in a reasonably sized package. Sometimes too much is said about the superiority of DSLR's when in fact the best camera is the one you will carry round. If you will carry the DSLR every where with you, with a selection of lenses etc, then fair play, but i know i wouldn't. However the G7 or the F30 i have is ALWAYS with me

LOL True true but I think its the D350 for a cheap SLR then multi thousands for a decent one 4 which I do not have the money for

nor do I have the time :eek:

I was just querying the D7 as the S3-IS is still a tad bit on the bulky side (not by much though). But its sods law - the smaller / smaller lens / smaller focal length the worse the results :rolleyes:

No not everyone, but that's my opinion and the guy above did agree with it.

I think too much is also made of the amount of lenses you "have" to carry around with you. Simply take a single versatile lense and that's all you need for a days shooting... and it's certainly not much less less convenient than carrying a G7 around.

Yup - a 20D without battery grip with a 17-40 is a small, light package that's easy to put over your shoulder all day

I've had a G7 since they came out.
Really like it.

The video on it in high res mode is outstanding.

Picture quality (mainly lower light) is not as amazing as I'd hoped - I expected to be blown away compared to my 2001 Fuji FinePix camera (£500 from new).
