Cannot Boot in AHCI mode

>Ah! Could this be trying to load both the Intel and the Microsoft AHCI driver, therefore not knowing which to pick?

That is a known problem. Both intel and microsoft acknowledge this. I was only looking at this a few weeks ago on the Microsoft support site and on the intel site

I have just very very quickly found something related which is this
http://social.technet.microsoft.com...l/thread/b5cf685c-9d1d-421d-b19f-3407834e8e4a

but the main point I am making is that I believe the problem is one you can solve without a hardware swap. Sounds like some kind of conflict to me
some good googling would get you running

An issue with AHCI is that if you install the OS without enabling AHCI in the BIOS, enabling it after installation will render your OS unusable. This is because Windows disable the AHCI driver since it is not needed during the installation.

Well, good news. I have managed to load the intel AHCI driver and get the install going. So fingers crossed I can get it working this time!

Well I don't know if its any use to anyone but:

-Disconnected everything so I could get the thing to boot!
-Set AHCI mode on in the Bios
-Reconnected just my SSD
-Installed the Intel (F6) drivers during W7 setup
-Installed Intel RST drivers once in Windows
-Shutdown and reconnected my sata hdd.
-Rebooted and crossed my fingers...

Bit of a bloody mess about but got there in the end!

I good tip is to only have the the SSD and DVD conected when installing windows. You can run into the problem that the master boot record can be write to another drive if anything else is connected.

how many op systems are u using ?

i can do it with one but not with multiple systems on multiple drives

so i have to keep the ssd in ide mode on multi boot and its actually faster like that

It's not always a case of it not working, many ssd's often with the MS ahci driver, but that doesn't mean its the right choice. So for anyone that's been running windows with their default ahci drivers. You should really use your motherboards ahci driver.

Example one of the gigabyte z77 boards. Windows installs all the way until just after the second reboot then falls over. Turns out it was the ms ahci driver not been compatible with all the options the motherboard offering it. Eg hotplug.
