Hello i have been running my pc (E6600, GA-965P-DS3rev 2.0, PC6400 4gb OCZ platinum memory, Corsair HX 520W) at 3ghz with the mem @ 833 for the past year or so, until recently when i replaced my 8800GTS 320mb gfx card with a new Gainward 4870 1gb card.

Now my pc wont post when i try to overclock it. I have searched the web and have found 2 posts describing a similar problem with same mobo & gfx card but there have been no solutions or updates so it has not been helpful.

I have tried removing all but 1 stick of memory, sound card and tried overclocking it then to see if it was a power problem but it still wouldnt post. I have also tried 3 different motherboard bios's. I replaced my 4870 with the old gfx card and it worked at 3ghz again so it seems to be some sort of compatibility issue between the mobo and the card?

I understand that the PSU is a bit on the low side but it is AMD/ATi approved for the gfx card so i would have thought that wouldnt be an issue.

Any help or advice you could give me?

Thanks in advance

Hav you tried increasing the PCI or pci-e bus to 101 if you have that setting ive heard that this can help these kind of problems

Still might be a power issue as the 4870 consumes much more juice than your old graphics card did. Dopn't forget that psu's degrade over time and don't give out as much juice as they did before.

Plus does you psu have split rails and dedicated pci-e 6 pins leads for the graphics card? If it does then thats fine, but if you are using molex>pci-e convertors you might be trying to supply the power to the graphics card on the same line as the mobo uses which then might be causing you the problems.

I had a similar problem with mine and I lost my stable overclock of 3.6Ghz on my quad and could only get it stable at 3Ghz. Problem solved once I got a new psu and back to 3.6Ghz again, no problems.

You PSU should be fine, there's nothing wrong with the HX520s :)

I'd advise playing around with your PCI bus speed - try 101, and if that doesn't work, try 109.
