So how long will the 40Ds be around for then? 3-4 years?
This may help :)

So only about a 18 months to wait til the 50D :p

The 5D is due a MkII pretty soon looking at that, it's going to have a lifespan longer than a 1 Series camera come February.

I have a 20D.

The main improvements from my point of view are the new sensor, the larger screen (1.8" 118,000 pixels to 3.0" 230,000) and Live View. Shame it's a little larger and heavier. I think I'll stick with the 20D and look into getting a longer lens.

Bets on that showing up in a new Sony Alpha first ;)
I'll take that bet ...

I imagine that you get a substantial discount off list price for production quantities.

hmm, looking at that price on DPreview, it's €1299, (£850/£900), that might sway me more towards a 30D :(, i was hoping it'd come in around £700, unless the import supplier on ebay can sell it for that price.

It will be at £700 in about this time next year, the launch price for 30D was around £900 too so this isn't really a surprise, more expected. If it did come out at £700, I'd be getting one too ! It's one of the reason i am holding off upgrading, it is literally £350 more than i paid for my 30D, not really £350 worth of upgrade (to me) in the 40D to justify it.

Do we know what level of weatherproofing this 40d is going to have. It does mention it but doesnt go into detail.

The only weather proofed areas are the battery and memory card covers.
