Canon 50m f/1.4 worth the money?

Erm, I think the going rate is around £200? I am not sure, may be 10% less to get it sold. I got it around 2007 I recall, I sold off all my EF-S lenses and began building towards EF lens only and it was the first lens that I got. I had it serviced at Canon at Elstree last summer at the cost of £195(!), have the receipt still so the lens is in tip top shape, still have the box and hood (although it has some scuffs on the hood), will come with a Hoya pro-1 UV filter).

I'll list it in MM soon as the Sigma gets a release date, along with my 85/1.8, I've not used that since I got my 85L.
This sounds great (and the price right too), but if my 450D is a crop body will that mean that I won't get shots like you did above?

So, just to clear up. If I want to get the same images as I see that raymond has got and the same zoom type as say they do on digitalrev in their 50mm, I need to get a 30mm for my 450D? Will this lense work when I eventually upgrade to a full frame camera?

Yes you need around 30mm to get the same-ish focal length on your 450D and no it won't work when you go FF.

The Sigma 30mm is a EF-S lens.

You choice would be a sigma 35mm, or the 2 Canon 35mm.

Because they've still got the f1.2 if speed is the ultimate goal. I just don't see them keeping such a line up 50mm lenses and if they introduce a stabilised 50mm then I see the 1.4 as the easy one to lose. This is just my guess though.
I just can't see them doing that the gulf between the cheapo 1.8 and the crazy expensive l lens is just far to wide and they would loose stacks of business to sigma which would seem like madness to me.

We will have to wait and see people have been talking about the f1.4 being updated for longer than I've been into photography so we'd best not hold our breath!

I do agree with you but if you take the new 35mm as an example, you now have the choice of the F/2 IS at almost £500 and the L at £1100. I don't think they are particularly bothered about offering an affordable range of primes.

I heard that the sigma is sharper then the canon one and saw a few charts, videos and pictures to back such a claim so if i was the OP i would choose the sigma.

On a crop body i would most definetly go for the sigma 35mm. no contest. it is the best 35mm prime lens you can get on a canon mount
