Canon 6D announced...

As an entry level FF I'm a bit disappointed that the body can't take white-fit lenses.

Sorry, maybe I'm misunderstanding here but no FF camera can take crop lenses.
Or are you making the point that it's FF and not crop, and that's the disappointment?

Also, doesn't that price point put it just under the 5D3? Why would you got for this instead at that price.

Looks like 5D2 and the 650D got drunk and had a child.

Think about it now, it is pretty good as an entry level FF camera.

SD card is cheap
Touch screen is nifty and hate to say it, it is all the rage now
20mp sensor is plenty for most people. Nice to see a new sensor though, wonder what this one is like.
11 focus points will not be in the same league as the 5D3 or 1Dx, exactly what Canon wanted.
Wifi & GPS, more techy stuff to entice people, bonus, and useful for a travelling photographer.
4.5fps is fine, but this is not a sports camera, the number of focus points indicates that.
+/- 5 exposure compensation is insane!!!
Keeping the same battery as the mkii and mkiii is welcome news.

If the ISO performance is better than the 5D2, although I doubt it, and if all focus points are crossed with a swappable focus screen then I might have to check it out when the price settles down. Would be my travel camera and make use of that GPS feature.

That is of course when the price comes down to 2/3 of the 5Dmkiii that is. Which at the moment would be around £1,400. Which won't be a while yet.

The only down side it that it is not that far technically advance from the 5D2, then again, that's what the 5D3 is.

2.

As far as I've read this morning; it does NOT feature a touch screen, and the button layout on the read looks puzzeling!

Only the centre AF point is cross type also.

I agree the 4.5fps is fine for this, as is the smaller body and plastic+alloy construction.

But why oh why oh why only 1 cross type AF?? The 650D HAS NINE OF THEM!! Thoroughly confused by this.

Ok the release specs that I coped from FM forum\DP may not be accurate... The Canon page here has some bad news:

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/suppo...eos_digital_slr_cameras/eos_6d#Specifications

Shutter Speeds
1/4000 to 30 sec., X-sync at 1/180 sec. (Total shutter speed range. Available range varies by shooting mode.)

AF Points
11 points
Center: cross-type at f/5.6; vertical line-sensitive at f/2.8.
Upper and lower AF points: vertical line-sensitive AF at f/5.6.
Other AF points: Horizontal line-sensitive AF at f/5.6.

No mention of MA...

DPReview have updated to show 1/4000 now

1/180th flash sync :(

Why, canon, why?

P.S. surely the 5DII is going to be the better buy? Unless you want super-AF, in which case you buy a 7D? No?

Wow, my excitement was quickly shrugged off when actually reading about it...

Sounds severely gimped...on purpose. Damn, i thought Sony was bad at that...

^ 1/180th...MAJOR pass...

I know what you mean. Although I wasn't expecting much from this release it has left me wanting to check the Nikon lens lineup again...

As an entry level FF I'm a bit disappointed that the body can't take white-fit lenses. People that are looking to move up to FF will probably have a reasonable collection of those and they would all have to be sold for red-fit L lenses.

I think you're getting a bit confused here.

What you refer to as "white fit" lenses are the EF-S models (with the white alignment dot). These lenses are specifically designed for crop cameras as they can be made more cheaply than the equivalent lens for a FF body. The rear element/structure protrudes further into the body than on a standard EF lens and would obstruct the mirror on a FF body if it could even be fitted to it.

You refer to "red fit L lenses" as if all non EF-S lenses are 'L's - they're not. Any EF lens will fit a FF body, and only some of these are from the 'L' range. There are plenty of EF lenses which will fit but which don't cost the earth.

Thanks for the info Vertigo.

The general consensus still seems to be a bit disappointing though. I really wanted to get this but now I'm not so sure.

This is not an update on the 5D2, I think if people expected better than that then they need to look at the mk3. This seem to be a new camera in the line up. This isn't an update to the 7D either.

Real shame about the focus points, 650D has better! That makes no sense. At all.

I don't think you need to compare Canon camera v Canon Camera Raymond, it isn't about that.

Each Camera is to fit a certain price criteria / market segment.

What you need to do is compare Canon Camera v Nikon Camera, i.e what is this going up against in the Nikon lineup and will it impact/steal sales from Nikon to Canon?

We'll have to wait and see how the AF performs in both the D600 and 6D. Whilst the D600 has more points they don't appear to cover a larger area, and the 9 cross points are all in the middle anyway not spread across the frame. The -3 EV could be interesting I guess. I can't say I'm enthused about the AF system in either model at this point.

Jessops are taking preorders for £1799 (body only) and £2519 (with the 24-105mm lens)

Thats £200 cheaper than the D600, yet they have the same US RRP of $2099.

That is interesting. With the D600 appearing on Drev for £1599, this could signal the initial pricing of the 6D to be less than £1500. The plot thickens....
