Can't assign drive letter to partition. Help!

Hi guys

A mate of mine has just added a 3TB drive to his computer. This drive has two partitions with data on both, but disk manager won't let him assign a drive letter to one of the partitions. Formatting isn't an option as the disk contains important stuff and isn't backed up. Any help appreciated

He should check his motherboard speck to see if it supports 3TB drives, some mobo's dont support them straight out of the box.

What soundesciple said. I've got a few Seagate 3TB drives and they have an url on the label http://www.seagate.com/beyond-2TB

It helps you getting the drive working on the PC and you won't need to format it.

Update already

The motherboard is an MSI H77MA-G43 which according to the spec sheet supports 3TB drives.

Yep my Asrock mobo supports them as well but there is a 3TB unlocking software on the driver/utillitys disk that came with the board.
