Just rebuilt my pc into an Antec 300.

Turned it on and the fans spun for a second then nothing. Tried again, fans didn't even spin up.

As this has happened to me before i moved some power cables away from the case to stop any shorting. Nothing.

Took mobo out the case and disconnected everything except power, cpu and 1 stick of ram. Same thing happens. If the 4 pin CPU cable is in it wont even turn on. If its out the fans spin up for half a second. Took cpu out and it turns on and the PSU fan spins normally. Tried 2 different stock Intel coolers and neither made any difference.

The mobo cant be shorting out on anything as its on a mobo box.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

i had similar before when i changed my power supply to something not rubbish, killed my mobo, id suggest cmos reset with battery out and no power left for 30 mins etc etc if you havent tried it already.

Take it out of the case and run it up on the box
as it could be a grounding issue, I recommend that you always boot of of the case first as it reduces the opportunity for errors and if there is a doa item its easy to get at :)

have you got any spare PSU's/mobo's about you can play with?

if like for me removing the battery doesnt reset the cmos use a screwdriver or jumper cap and hold them onto the reset cmos jumpers for a few seconds, works a treat:)

Something has died. Check your system with a different ram. I had a similiar problem.
Your MB could be shorting itself out.
Does the fan on your GF card spins?
Or nothing spins at all?
Does the MB light light up? If so does it give you any beeps?
Try a differnt ram.
Your PSU is more than powerful enough to power your items.
I recently bought nearly everything new because my older system died. Never did I thought the ram could have caused the problem. Put the new MB up and still didn't boot.
Took all my ram out put another one in and it fired up.
Either it is shorting itself or some of your component is broken.
Even your MB could be the problem.

Ok an update.

I've now replaced the mobo and the cpu.

I replaced the mobo first (which was confirmed dead on the RMA), which meant that the computer would actually spin up properly - even though it wouldnt boot or beep.

After leaving it on for a few hours, all the heatsinks were warm except for the CPU heatsink. So i RMA'd that, and bought and 5200. This arrived this morning, however theres no change except that the heatsink gets warm. So i've narrowed it down to the memory or the PSU.

I think its the memory but i dont working sticks so im gonna have to order some more.

This is a massive headache.......... SO SO frustrating :(

is the new kit.

have you tried a different PSU? when my hiper killed itself (and no kit) everything light up and spun etc, even the psu lights were on. Although after about 10 minutes you could smell death coming from the psu (only a tiny tiny bit). If your mobo and cpu died at the same time its likely that they were killed by something, and that likely to have been the psu.

I'm borrowing some dodgy Arctic Silence 600w psu (not too dodgy, cost my mate 40quid), and some old ddr2.

I pray it works.............. PRAY :)
