this isnt completely correct as i have connected to the network several times.the reason i am putting the post up is i keep getting randomly disconnected from the network and then cant sign back in for hours usally.id say i cant sign in more than the times i can. absolutely nothing wrong with my internet connection. has anyone else experienced this, is there a reason why.

I was having this prob until last nite due to low signal strenth, I changed the chanel on my wireless router from 11 to 5 and its been ok since.

yes, it is via wireless.signal strength is 85%. now, the weird thing is, that my ps3 is having no problem with the connection at all, because i am right now browsing the net through its browser, the problem is purely with the playstation network and signing in. i just exited the ps3 browser, then tried to sign in straight away and its sayin 'the connection with playstation network timed out'. its getting really annoying. any ideas

I allways seemed to have 0 sign in probs, my prob was it would randomly disconect from the network sometimes within 30 secs of signing in and sometimes it would drop 1 hour after

But mine was due to low singnal strenth was around 35% its now 80 odd.

Have you opened the ports on the router the ps3 needs?

What ports does the ps3 need? Mine is doing the same.

I'm having great problems myself. I've forwarded those ports you listed, gone through just about every channel for the wireless router and the connection is still a bit unstable. It's much better than it was, before it could barely see the wireless network, now it seems to sit around 50% and I'm actually able to sign in to the PSN and browse the shop a bit. It seems to disconnect after 5-10minutes though.

After fiddling with the Belkin routers settings though, I can no longer get my 360 connected, it keeps failing the MTU test, and I can't find an option to adjust this on the router.

Plus my fathers laptop now doesn't see the wireless network despite being in the same room as the router  could this be because it's on the highest channel, 13?

I'm on the verge of buying a wireless access point to place elsewhere in the house to improve the signal to my room or even running a network cable around the outside wall of my house. Please stop me having to spend £50. :(

how do you check signal strength and will using a different channel help strength? if sho how does that work?

Goto settings/ Network settings/ Settings and Conection status list.

Going from chanel 11 to 5 my singel strenth went from 35& to 85% not been disconected since.

channel 13 gave me the best signal strength but that channel, and 12, don't seem to be picked up by my dads laptop. So I'm now using 7, which gives a slightly better than 40% signal but it's still not stable.
Half the problem is having a load of water pipes and a hot water tank just the other side of the wall to my room, and directly between the router and my consoles/pcs.

I'm guessing this isn't needed, though, if the router supports UPnP?

Hi

Going by what a lot of people were saying a while back on the ps3 forums they were saying its best to disbale UPnP via the router and ps3 and just open them ports esp if you get a NAT3 code when doing a conection test on the PS3 itself.

Nat 2 is what you want which is what i now have

What router do you have? i have a NetGear. Im in a bigish house my wiresless router is down stairs my ps3 and laptop are up stairs and now im getting a damn good signal since changing chanel.

I guess it all depends what router you have. Have you got the lastest firmware for it?
