I'm trying to delete this folder C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\uguru.inf_amd64_neutral_8de494543c3a5038 as I'm getting BSODs due to uguru.sys even though it's no longer installed but I'm getting a message saying that I need permission. Most programs you can just right click and choose 'run as administator' but I can't do that here so how can I delete it?

The driverstore probably isn't quite like other folders, similar to the Windows GAC in c:\windows\assembly. Try in safemode, if not, you might have to try booting from a boot disk and doing it through there.

Safe mode didn't work, what do you mean about doing it from a boot disk Moredhel, do you mean from DOS?

Well, I really wouldn't recommend this as it's obvious windows is actually using that driver for something. But you could download say a Ubuntu live CD, boot from it, mount the hard drive and delete the file, then boot back into Windows.

Right click the folder > properties > security tab > advanced (at the bottom) > owner tab > click on edit > select your usergroup, if you are an admin then select adminitrators > click ok > then ok again > then you wil be faced with the security tab > click edit > and select administrators > and give it full control > then you can delete it.

Sorry for making this a little difficult to understand, hope it works for you.

Hadn't considered that Administrators may not have permission to the folder. Interesting idea. :)

Edit: You're right, only system has access to write to the folder. Everyone else only has read / list / execute rights.

So I guess that fixed your problem?

I was trying to remove a file recently and discovered that the solution (offered by someone else) was to drag the file to the desktop and then delete it from there. It worked in that instance for me.

I was also advised that Spy Bot Search and Destroy also has a file schredder, which would have been my next line of defence, but the dragging and deleting from the desktop worked.

Good Luck

HiJackThis and Killbox didn't work but I managed to get rid of the offending file eventually after a good fiddle with the permissions, thanks all :)
