Can't find single player game to hook me

Tomb raider reboot and the sequel too. Fantastic games. Mass effect trilogy although it would really help things if they remastered ME1. It's very clunky on a modern PC.

  • Divinity original sin (2 is even better)
  • Pillers of Eternity (2 / deadfire is even better)
  • XCOM (2 is even better)
  • Dragon age series (Origins is great, 2 is meh and Inquisition is solid)
  • Mass effect series (inc Andromeda, does not live up to initial trilogy, but is a blast IMO)
  • Fallout series
  • Kingdom of Amalur (old but great fun still)
  • Grim Dawn
  • Arkham Knight series
  • Diablo 3
You may have some of these, but cant see your steam library so ignore.

  • Divinity Original sin (And 2) - Played, wife and I will be playing through the second one together like we did with the 1st when we get some time
  • Pillars, loved the first one... Been thinking about the second one! So that could be a good option
  • DA series. 150+ hours on inquisition, and even more on the previous ones lol
  • MA, played the series to death (including a replay on PC, made a thread about it to try get others to play lol), started Andromeda, got very bored very quickly
  • Fallout - Never been a fan, just don't like the setting. Not my thing
  • Kingdoms of Amalurrrrrr, what an epic gem. Played it, but strongly suggest this to others
  • Grim Dawn, tried it but couldn't get on with it weirdly, may give it another go
  • Arkham knight, played all of them, love all of them
  • Diablo 3. Wife and I play this together a lot, although not for a while. Great fun, I just don't like the end game side of it
  • Tomb raider, been trying the latest one and almost completed it. I just get very bored, it simply can't beat uncharted in my eyes
  • Dying light - Love it! I'm just not very good with scary games haha.
  • Mad Max... Never tried it, could be another game to give a whirl!
  • Sleeping dogs, tried, didn't enjoy
  • STALKER, awesome atmosphere, been a while since I picked it up
  • Thief, in my library, never put more than a couple of hours into it... Seems half finished
Awesome suggestions guys, keep them coming!

I really enjoyed the first one, I just couldn't get on with the feel, it's super sluggish. Not tried Mankind... Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe that's a game to consider?
Not sure why you felt that Human Revolution felt sluggish, had no such feelings when I played it.

If you played Deus Ex the original, then if you keep your eyes open playing Human Revolution and Mankind Divided you find small clues to the first one, since they both happens before the Original was played out.

I just checked reviews and wow, it's been slated!

What ?? Just did a quick google, Mankind has 84% Metacritic, 88% PC Gamer and 6/10 Trusted Reviews ... and Human Revolution has better stats.. so, what's been slated exactly ?? Although, for me both games is up there with the Witcher series, but we all like different things though. :p

I checked Steam store user reviews. Still, I'll do some proper looking into it tonight.

Pillars 2 is on my list so far. I don't know why I've not picked it up yet.

Pillars 2 would give you quiet a few hours of play time if you like that kind of games. :)

I take it it was Mankind Divided that you saw the negative reviews on ? I just read through some of them and one chap finished the game in 23-25 hours, I am guessing he more or less ran through it guns blasting. Took me 103 hours to play it all through, but then again I did a pacifist run and tried to find as much stuff as possible. Playing both games I had 1 crash, and can't even recall in which of them it was. Guess I was lucky, although there is some bugs yes, but if you careful you can get pass those without problem, and if you not to worried about pacifist run in Mankind, then you be good anyway. In any case, that's my last post about it, in the end up to you what you want to try your hands on. :p

On another note, if you want to play a beautiful made game and a bit different, have a look at Ghost of a Tale. I have not completed it yet, but it is good fun and the story seems decent so far.

First off, what epic suggestions!

Played Vampire to death back in the day, fantastic game and really in depth story. Loved it. Played Hellblade, it was more of a tech demo for me, spectacular though! Don't get me wrong, loved it.
Quantum Break and SOMA? Spectacular stories / concepts in both.

I'm having fun with two rather different single player games at the moment - Grim Dawn and Wreckfest (which can also be multiplayer, but I don't do multiplayer). Wreckfest is still technically an alpha (current version is 0.22) and I was reluctant to pay £25 to be an unpaid alpha tester for a game that at the current rate of development will be finished in about 2050, but the latest update makes it fairly complete (and adds a career mode which greatly improves the single player). It's some good fun, best described as being like Flatout but a bit more serious. I was going to strongly recommend Grim Dawn, but I noticed you saying that you played it and didn't get into it.

On the Fallout line, I haven't seen New Vegas suggested. That's possibly the Fallout game best suited to your stated preferences. It certainly has a far better story than FO4 does.

Oddly, I probably spend as much time playing Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup as any other game. Before that, I played ADoM several thousand times. Great games...if you like Roguelikes.

Metro 2033 and Last Light have a very good story and the gameplay is very engaging, not to mention the atmosphere is great too.

I am with OP, very few single player games do it for me nowadays :( Too predictable, arcadey, shallow and so on. The last single player games that kept my attention long enough to complete were Deus Ex:HR and Deus Ex:MD, Alien Isolation (the best single player game... ever?), Metal Gear V and... Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 :) The latter has good stealth, rag doll and sniping mechanics and decent freedom of movement (I hate games on rails like single player COD and BF), the plot is poor though.
