Iits eventually going to be available to purchase ( for those with incredibly deep pockets!!! ).

I thought they were aiming at around £150k...Not *that* expensive for what it is... :)

Thread revival time chaps!!!

Reason being, I have just been told I have got one of these coming in to test in a couple of weeks, last time it was here I was on holiday so the project went to someone else, since then, she has left and it has reverted to me, :D.

Will be interesting to see what has changed as looking through the paperwork last time it was here they had a lot of problems getting the engine to hold together.

I hope the weather is a bit better come the day as I don't fancy 1000 bhp per tonne and performance figures of 0-60 in under 2.5 secs and 0-120 in around 6 secs when the tracks are as wet as they are at the moment.

Should be a fun few days, will post back later when I have some more interesting feedback to give.

Untill then just to wet your appetites for figures a bit;

We have here a car with a 575bhp 3.5 lt V8 with max power at 10,500 rpm, can be tuned to over 750bhp when running methanol.

That is combined with a 550kg composite honeycomb chassis, giving a power to weight ratio of in excess of 1000bhp per tonne, over twice that of the Veyron.

Can be yours in July for around £230,000.

And to be honest, they would have been better off just sticking some tat on an F1 car. Thats all it is really. And an F1 car looks better, has better specs and probably would cost less to buy and ex-works model.

This is what they have done.

Aerodynamically speaking this is an F1 car with the worst bits - the tyres (which produce the majority of an F1 car's drag) covered up.

That will certainly cause the majority of the F1 grid to break a sweat if they were to meet a Caparo T1 on the track!

I guess it's no more pointless than most hypercars, i.e. it'll get wheeled out on a weekend from a garage full of other exotica and owned by some billionaire as a toy.
In those terms, why not own what is pretty much a road version of an F1 car, but without the F1 rules constraining it.

You're joking aren't you?

I am not so sure, personally I think he may not be joking.

I'm sure Nick will put me right here, but I think this years F1 cars with the rev limit cannot be much more than around 1100-1200 bhp per tonne. The Caparo with the methanol engine is approx 1300bhp per tonne.

The Caparo is lighter than an F1, 500-550kg compared to approx 610kg, IIRC, in race trim, with the 750bhp methanol fueled engine, it would be slightly less power than an F1, (not totally sure on the present peak power output with the new rev limit).
Then as Nick says the Caparo is, if anything, slightly better aerodynamically as the wheels are covered up.
So where you gain in one place you loose in another, but overall, in a straight race I think it may be a closer run thing than many may imagine.

It doesn't have an entire team behind it optimising everything for the fastest lap time though. 3g on corners? F1 cars can pull 4.5-5g. F1 car would destroy one around the corners and in braking.

Agreed but as has been proved many a time, once you get ahead of an F1, it's hard to get past unless the driver ahead lets you get past.
I think in a straight drag to the first corner a Caparo would not be far away from, as Nick said, "the majority" of F1 teams, i.e. the tailenders and mid grid teams.

Yes, but not surprising given that the F1 car is on Bridgestone racing tyres. Put similar tyres on this thing and you may well see a bit more than 3g pulled in the turns. Not sure it'll get as high as 5g due to the probable difference in downforce, but 4g could be achievable with tyres that make no concession to road use or weather.

If a Veyron can stomp all over an F1 car in the straight then surely this can. Then its up to the F1 car to get back past which isn't going to happen unless its a short horrid twisty track.

We've seen the Veyron trounce F1 cars numerous times and was discussed on Top Gear when the V was at VWs test track.

The way I see it, an F1 car would have an advantage in braking and corner speed...the twistier the track, the less chance it would have to get ahead. it would need a long straight with a good hard braking point at the end...

have we...? ;)

that was the maclaren F1. not a Formula 1 car.
