Any manger who takes on england is doomed to fail. To many things going against them. Aging team with most big names reaching the scrap yard. Terry,Rio,Lamps, gerrard etc all face their last possible tourament. Not much proven quality coming up the ranks and then you got every pundit, rag and fan playing arm chair manager when results don't come. I don't see many top managers coming other than for the money. Would be silly getting rid of capello now with the euro this year. Wait till its over and then do whatever.

Arry now 3/1 on to be next England manager

No surprise there. The FA have made it clear they want an English manager to get the job in the summer and he's the only half decent English manager out there. The only thing standing in his way was the court case, now that's gone, the job's his if he wants it.

In relation to Capello's performance as manager. I think he's certainly done no better than Sven considering the talent he has at his disposal. Not that England are a team of world beaters but certainly should be brushing aside teams like the USA, Algeria and despite their impressive teamwork, should at least be giving Germany a decent contest (not getting rolled over like they did in S.Africa.)

I'm someone who hates when people bang on about tactics and their importance so I'll try and not come off as a hypocrite here but the fact is, he's still doing what other managers before him were accused of. Selecting players on the basis of reputation, rather than the needs of the formation or strategy he's adopting. I mean didn't he play Gerrard on the left side of midfield against the USA in the opening game of the WC? Truly baffling stuff.

England need someone who's going to look at the type of scenario like Gerrard & Lampard and think, "well...better let both of them know they're fighting for the one spot in the middle." Instead of that nonsense with BOTH playing in the centre just for the hell of it.

If you look at how England played in the 2002 WC and 2004 Euro's there's no doubt England have gone backwards albeit the rot started with Sven but Capello really has offered nothing

So not Harry then? he said on numerous times that if he was england manager he would "Get Stevie and Lamps in the middle, two quick wingers out wide and lump those effective balls unto crouchie, when you have someone as tall as he is you need to use it to your advantage"

Not that i watch England very often, but i can't imagine the stoke city approach will be too popular.

That does have to be a concern with Arry, lets face it if they were made available he'd sign both Lampard and Gerrard for Spurs in a heart beat. I think the only way he wouldn't persist with both in a midfield 2 would be if either/both retired from International football

England need a strong manager who doesn't partake in Fantasy Football or Football Manager :p

IMO they should ditch Capello now and take Harry on until the world cup. Moral in the England camp must be low. After saying what he did Capello is now part of the problem even ig you agree with him. He just doesn’t have the charisma to dig the team out of it.

On who should be the next manager or whether Capello should go before the Euros?
Maybe start with whether Capello should go before the Euros.

I just love how the manager has been blamed with the last 3 managers.

Surely, it's not ALL Eriksson, McLaren and Capello's fault? At what point are people going to stop and think that maybe, the players are to blame? Doesn't matter which manager we get in next, he will somehow be to blame for us failing in the next tournament.

It's the same every time.

Look the players didnt vote to take heskey to the world cup and throw him on in some demonic effort to go out of the competition vs germany...

its decisions like that which trouble me most. Also, heskey notably 'landed' heavily on rio in the pre tournament camp, ruling Rio out of the entire tourny due to injury...

Can we have a poll please?

You can do, if people give me 6-10 names of who they think are reasonable prospects then I'm happy to put in a poll.

At the moment excluding jokes and the winning Merson/Kamara combo it looks like we've got Harry Redknapp, Guus Hiddink, Jose Mourinho, Alan Shearer, Stuart Pearce. Anyone have any more that they want added to the poll?
