Capital One Cup Semi-Final - 8/9/22/23 January *** Spoilers ***

Are the Daily Mail trying to imply there's a link between rich kids and getting kicked by Premiership footballers?

Who cares if he's got an iPhone or a brand new car, that has nothing to do with the incident you ***** :/

I think what he said at the very end brings up something most people probably haven't even considered: what would another footballer have done in that situation? I reckon almost any other player in an identical situation (I mean at the point of having already approached the ball-boy and been confronted with his silly behaviour) would've done exactly what Hazard did. It's not an action that could only take place in a "moment of madness", with the player "losing his head" because of frustration or anger or a lack of professionalism. Hazard didn't look like he'd lost his calm whatsoever. He just did what he probably considered the normal thing to do, and probably what anybody else would've (without hindsight of course).

I mean, from what little of his personality has come out in the past 6 months, he looks to be a very quiet person. One who doesn't react despite being kicked and fouled every game. He's not aggressive in his play or his demeanor on the pitch, and he rarely looks like he gets over-emotional. Has he even had a yellow card since coming to England?

I think it's just quite embarrassing for football in this country that something so petty and insignificant is considered a hot topic of debate. Any opportunity for the media to appeal to the lowest common denominator and sling some mud though, I guess.

Anyway, moving on, and considering this is also the thread for the match itself, if any one Chelsea player deserves a ban after that game, it's probably Ramires. He committed a horrible tackle on Ki that could've broken his ankle (looked like it might have for a while) and should've been a straight red. He was doing it against Arsenal as well. He needs to calm down a bit I think.

Okay, its the dailymail but people please go to the link, look at the last picture, the kid is clearly not completely on the floor, the video clearly shows the ball pop out from under him, he didn't take a massive swing, its a toe poke and the toe hit the freaking ball, not the kid, there was never an attempt to kick the kid, there was maybe some incidental contact, hate to harp on about intent, but it IS everything here.

There is absolutely nothing in this at all, not unless you WANT there to be something in it.

You could always see from video's, which are clearly from a higher angle, that the kid drops a little right after Hazard kicks the ball.

If he intentionally kicked the kid, I'd say lifetime ban from EPL, if there is no intent, no punishment whatsoever.

You can't permit players to commit dangerous acts without fear of repercussions simply based on intent, heck we see players get sent off for dangerous play several times a season in cases where it was doubtful they intended to hurt anyone but went in with a dangerous challenge. You'd also have a massive issue in trying to prove intent, every tom dick and harry would be playing the "I didn't mean any harm guv" card.

Attempting to kick a football out from under a ballboy is dangerous IMO, that is a job for the officials to sort out, not the players.

Punishment of dangerous acts is prevalent throughout society as not just a crux for punishing evil people but also protecting the innocent.

I cannot believe they have posted the pictures from his twitter account of him on holiday in Las Vegas and buying an iPhone 5 and some Ralph Lauren towels!!

I guess only kids who's dads are rich act like that?

How are they relevant at all to him acting like an idiot?

:/

[edit]No, you're right, he could've killed him.

He could have easily cracked or broken a rib, fact is players can (and do) get straight reds for much less in the game.

If Chelsea had been 2-0 up in the home leg their ball boys would have been doing exactly the same, it's what ball boys do. I'm surprised by the amount of people who seem surprised that ball boys openly admit to slowing the game down, it's pretty much part of their job. If the FA weren't happy about it they should have banned the use of them by now, that still wouldn't stop players taking even longer to resume play though.

Both the ball boy and Hazard acted stupidly in this incident frankly, I just don't know how anyone can argue that it wasn't violent conduct and a red card when he could have just as easily used his hands in a less wreckless manner.

As for the Daily Mail they are just making a story out of nothing, whether rich or poor a ball boys job is simply to a> speed the game up if their team is in a hurry, b> slow the game down if their team is not in a hurry.

Basically, I've come to the conclusion that Hazard must follow him on Twitter, because he obviously knew he was a bit of a rich idiot and he was 17 years old, because that makes it ok to kick him for acting a tool.

It's laughable, it's completely irrelevant how old he is or how well off he is, you can't go about kicking people that annoy you. This 'he deserved it' **** is utterly hilarious, lots of people annoy each other in every day life, you don't go kicking them and it's not really a good enough excuse for kicking someone, he wasted ~8 seconds of game time and acted a bit of an idiot, so it's ok to kick him and then after the game we find out he's 17, so that makes it even more ok because kicking teenagers is better than kicking children or old people, then finding out he made a few tweets a bout time wasting makes it even more ok to kick him. Come on guys.

Think how much time goal keepers waste and how frustrated the crowd get with them, is it ok for someone to kick the goal keeper because he's being an idiot and time wasting? The referee is going to add it on anyway. It's part of the game, as much as the ball boys time wasting is or them having towels for long throws. Deal with it. Ask the referee to add it on, make him aware of it.

Also, it's completely sodding irrelevant what Hazard does off the pitch, how does him earning X or whatever have anything to do with him losing his temper? I agree that he's paid a lot and is representing Chelsea, so he should be a bit aware of his actions, but jeez, don't kick a kid because you lost your temper, that isn't anything to do with how much you get paid, that's just losing your temper and not being mature enough or smart enough to deal with it.

Also, as a professional footballer, you train to kick a small object hard and accurately, it's literally a vital part of football. You really think footballers foul each other by 'accident' all the time? Hmm. Getting kicked like that by a pro footballer is a bit different to a guy off the street kicking someone like that, while a bit more accurate, it's going to be a fair bit more powerful.

I bet it was Peter Herbert that reported it to the police too :p.

People defending Hazard are really just... meh. I can't even say, I'm not defending the ball boy, well, not in the sense he was an idiot, I'm just defending the point you can't go around kicking people for wasting ~8 seconds of a football match that will be added on. Also; now we know the kid is a rich tool, not just a tool.

I think Hazard could well face a longer ban, it wouldn't surprise me, but I think the red card is enough. Also, the referee literally followed the book on sending him off, so this crap from Gareth 'I don't know the rules of the game I play because I'm really stupid, but it's ok because I bike to work' Bale are pointless. As for Pat Nevin, brilliant, you'd kick a child for wasting ~8 seconds of your life.

What Hazard should have done, is when the kid went down like a cheap hooker, he should have pointed and made fun of what he did, that would have shown the idiot up and probably got him in some trouble, then walk away and talk to the referee about time being added on.

I've had a drink /rant over.

Anyway; this needs more press coverage. This is just a marvellous story.

Friend showed me this story today, it needs more coverage and I apologise for the daily mail link.

Read me.

What an utterly top man Jones is, what a fantastic thing to do.

Absolutely not rubbish. Players do get sent off for less or put another way acting with the potential to hurt ssomeone. If

Also, my ribs were broken when I was younger through someone accidentally putting the boot in while stabbing for the ball. Obviously circumstances are never identical but you'd be surprised how easily ribs can break.

Edit; what I have said is pretty unarguable in that you can either say I am lying (which sort of ruins any meaningful discussion) or that I'm right (also sort of kills the debate) . I assure you that I am not lying and that for the purposes of debate, ribs can be broken easily particularly when lying prone.

I heartily agree. What a hero.

It warms the heart on this cold winter's day.

Good lord, look at all that dribble on the floor in here.
Some people actually think Hazard meant to kick the kid, plums.
