I hate forearm and grip training. I know how important it is, i know how good huge muscular forearms can look. But the PAIN!!!! Still im not coming up with any kind of answer just saying it sucks. In the quest for mammoth fore arms ive just ordered a "CAPTAINS OF CRUNCH #1 gripper"!!!

Ordered from

These are no ordinary 'argos' grippers. The #1 (the first of the 'classic 5') which i ordered requires 140lbs of pressure to close, yes that means some of you could stand on it and it would not close, and thats the 1'st of 5!!!

Needless to say #5 is a massive 360lbs thats enough pressure that no competing bodybuilder would be heavy enough to depress it with bodyweight! in fact it's likely 2 adult men could not! When i googled '360lbs of pressure to find a comparison all i got was the specs for Camero Muscle car superchargers!

Anyway im embarking on the #1's i advise any of you who train to give these a go, ive heard great things and at £20 each (considering you'll only need to buy one every few months at most) pretty good value!

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with these, might try the trainer version myself. My deadlifts are beginning to suffer from lack of grip at the moment.

Actually the trianer is the "easiest" of the COCs. I've got up to the #2, although i've not done it for a while so probably can't at the moment. Going up to the #4

EDIT: BTW for the grippers i would strongly advise doing negatives with the gripper one up from the one you are trying to close. This got me to the #2 a lot quicker than i expected.

I got a set of scales and squeezed them and got 9 stone, dunno how accurate this is :P

thats roughly 117lbs then (two handed?)

im getting nervous about trying these 140lb ones, most people are saying they are too tough for general weight lifters, now i put myself above that, i can hold onto a 200kg (440lb bar) cant do much with it tho lol fingers crossed, ill do a rep come hell or high water, i refuse to buy the 'trainer' grips!

will do, ill try and find a comparison weight ill see how many i can do and then try to relate it to a barbell hold so that you can work your level out. From what oddjob said (bearing in mind that, if some of his other posts are 100% kosher, he's a MONSTER)then i think the trainer would be best for most people, it's gonna be dead embarassing if i come post on here that i cant do it (which i will if its the case)

I've got a massive grip strength as I have no girlfriend :D. No seriously, used to arm wrestle a lot. Not sure on trainer or #1. Might just buy #1, if it's no good, buy trainer and keep #1. Only £20.

Just ordered the #1 and #2 myself... Cant wait to introduce them into my routine.

Will let you know how I get on (for reference currently forearms measure 12")

Thought I would try it that way.... If I find I just cant make the jump then its not a big deal to order some 1.5's.

I don't actually have that make/model, I do have some similar exercise tools, but not more than 1 pressure. I might have to invest in some of these. They are great to do when on hold on the phone or in the office.

Which one of these are best to start on for those who have never done grip training? (Weigh 10stone 4)

The trainer would be a good start.

I've just moved onto the #2.....can't close it yet though. They are quite addictive. I have them on my bedside table and blast a few out in the morning and before I go to bed.

Probably never get upto #4 as there's only about five people who have ever closed that one officially ........and one of them was Magnus Samuelson.

Your supposed to treat them like other strength lifts, once or twice a week with proper preperation to advance. I think we should hold an OCUK running competition to close the hardest grip the most times. Do the grips have any identifying marks or anything that would show in a photo as evidence?
