You can still claim off the "pot" that is set aside for **** wits who don't have insurance I think.

CAB advice is thus:

"If the driver was uninsured, or cannot be identified, the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) may be able to settle your claim. In certain circumstances, an insurer may be able to deal with your claim, even where the driver is technically uninsured. To find out more about these circumstances, contact the MIB on 01908 830001."

Unfortunately it takes years to get your money from them. Happened to a guy who I used to work with on nye. Other driver went through red light, smashed into him writing off his car, other driver reversed, mounted the kerb drove round him and drove off. Car was traced to a house full of immigrants from Iraq. Police wouldn't/couldn't do anything about it even though there were 4 witnesses and CCTV footage as it happened right outside a police station.

And the day after I post this some scumbag scuffed the front bumper on the Lexus this morning in sainsburys car park. Was in there for 15 mins and I was parked with no other cars around...

Bad luck pal had quotes for damage to my car needs a new a new quarter panel minimum grand to fix now the **** head responsible has old bill on his case it's come on top for him big time now he's leaving notes on my screen asking me to phone him lol think i will leave him to his fate I'll never moan about paying council tax ever again good old coppers :-)

Speak to the police again, if they've collared him for it you'll be able to do something, even if it's a civil claim..

I wasn't so fortunate when a similar thing happened to me, I had to claim on my insurance as an own fault claim as I needed a whole new door and some other minor bodywork. On the plus side I have a lot of ncb and it's protected, so not the end of the world.

Sorry to hear about this :(. On the plus side, a bottle of wine for your neighbours is in order, good to have people looking out for you!

A while ago a friend of mine had a load of wood and steel delivered to their drive. Later on, a bunch of blokes turn up, load it into the back of an ancient pickup, and drive off with it! Neighbours watched the whole thing and didn't even take the reg.

Just because they're uninsured doesn't mean they can't be charged with criminal offenses and forced to pay for the repairs. If you don't follow this through they'll just do it again.

Sure i spoke to police they said don't contact him insurance already have details from reg number just let insurance company's sort it out (insurance showing on his car) and they will be speaking to him regarding offenses..lets face it they only reason the scumbag has left a note is because the penny's dropped he's been rumbled

That's common practice, that way they both lose their no claims and they both have to pay their excess, it's the insurance companies best outcome.
