Car defrosting on driveway, lesson learned

Whilst I'm not doubting the convenience of leaving the car running to defrost itself I never would, just seems a bit silly to me.

Not sure if it's illegal in England but it's illegal up her in Scotland to leave a vehicle running and unintended. There was a small radio campaign on Clyde1 (when I was through in Glasgow for a couple of trips) warning of the legality and the oppurtunists.

It's illegal in England as well. People are either too thick to understand this or simply don't give a toss.

And Wales, however leaving your car running in your drive on private property is not the same as leaving it running unattended in the street.

Or you own a **** N reg 306 with dodgy electrics and you get out to clear some leave under the wiper blades and the central locking mysteriously trips :o

Could we see the keys to verify this please?

or

It's been recovered and key were left in the ignition, how do you explain this?

errr if the car was stolen with the keys that was stolen from your house than yes the car might still be with the keys and you wouldn't have them.

I used to get paranoid about someone sneaking out of the shadows and jumping into the drivers seat while I'm scraping ice on the offside windows. Then I realised that they would be trying to drive off with me in the passenger seat smacking them in the head with an ice scraper so it doesn't bother me as much anymore.

Why do people leave their cars running unattended? It's just foolish.

Start it, get the scraper out. Start on the driver's side window and work round the back and finish up with the driver's side of the windscreen. That way, even if someone jumped in it while you were there, they have no visibility
