Car for around £5000

Get a Mk4 Golf GTI Turbo, I picked one up for 4.5k and I love it. Plus a lot of potential with the engine

I don't think any new car is £5k, maybe some Korean/Asian thing but even then it's pushing it.

I think you'd have to pay more like £5.5-6.5k and it wouldn't be a very special car for that price. I looked into it myself a while back as I figured the high cost versus a used car would be offset by the manufacturer's warranty and peace of mind that running costs should be low.

Hyundai also do a car that starts at £6005 they are all nasty 1.0L boxes.

I think the cheapest cars which are remotely decent are things like a Ford Fiesta or VW Fox, from around £6.5k.
